General Security chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim stated on Tuesday after holding talks with the Consultative Gathering MPs that an “initiative” to ease the government formation impasse has been “crowned with success,” without disclosing the candidate’s name to represent said MPs.

“Our initiative has been crowned with success. I want to extend my gratitude to President Michel Aoun,” Ibrahim told anxious reporters, referring to the President’s week-long consultations with concerned parties to end the impasse.

“Our meeting with MPs is the first step towards the completion of the initiative. Things are going by leaps and bounds heralding a close government,” added Ibrahim.

Asked about the Consultative Gathering’s candidate to be named as minister, Ibrahim said: “We haven't discussed the names proposed yet. When the initiative is complete then we will announce the name,” he said.

He noted that one of the six MPs, Faisal Karami, is expected to return to Beirut on Friday after which they will name the candidate.

“All political parties have made concessions in order to make the formation happen,” he said.

For his part, Abdul Rahim Mrad said: “We appreciate the efforts of Ibrahim. His efforts were successful. The entire problem has been solved.”

“Our meeting with MPs is the FIRST not DEFINITIVE step towards the completion of the initiative." Said Ibrahim.

“We haven't discussed the names proposed yet. When the initiative is complete then we will announce the name,” he said.

Now I ask why Abdul Rahim Mrad said: “We appreciate the efforts of Ibrahim. His efforts were successful. The entire problem has been solved.”

Is it a joke?!

Btw, I believe when he said the initiative was "crowned with success", it merely meant that the MPs he met accepted the proposed deal, but Does KSA agreed with such format?

I must amend my comment here, I didn't notice that such initiative consisted in giving a Christian seat to MPs of consultative gathering. In this case, there's nothing solved because they've been clear: they are Sunnis and so entitled to a Sunni seat. Plus they have insisted in naming a MP among them not an outsider. I bet they will decline the offer.
