U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale held talks Sunday with Army Commander General Joseph Aoun on the second day of an official Lebanon visit.

He was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard.

According to the National News Agency, talks tackled “the general situations in Lebanon and the region and cooperation ties between the armies of the two countries, especially the volume of U.S. military assistance earmarked for the army.”

Hale had commenced his visit to Beirut on Saturday by meeting Progressive Socialist Party leader ex-MP Walid Jumblat.

According to the U.S. embassy, he is also scheduled to meet with the country’s top leaders to discuss a host of issues topped by Hizbullah’s “destabilizing activities in Lebanon and the region.”
