Berri and Bassil Hail Approval of Oil Decree, Urge Swift Implementation of Law

Speaker Nabih Berri and Energy Minister Jebran Bassil expressed relief on Thursday after the cabinet approved the oil exploration decrees, according to As Safir newspaper.
“Congratulations to Lebanon… We’ve reached the stage of implementing the work, and we should exert efforts to compensate for lost time,” Berri told the daily.
For his part, Bassil stressed that the approval of the law is an important step in the quest of oil exploration in Lebanese waters after the parliament approved last year a draft law to allow oil and gas exploration.
“The challenge now is in appointing the committee tasked with administrating the oil sector in a month at best, where the tenders would kick off in a maximum period of 3 months,” he told the newspaper.
Bassil noted that the appointment of the committee members will depend on the principle of “efficiency,” which would be binding.
Asked about the amount of oil and gas expected to be recovered from Lebanese waters, he said: “We will talk about the issue at the right time. The Lebanese will hear good surprises soon.”
Head of the parliamentary public works and energy committee MP Mohammed Qabbani told As Safir that approving the law is a “positive and efficient step” that should be followed by appointing the oil committee members.
However, he noted that the exploration of Lebanese waters will be costly.
Qabbani said that going ahead with the exploration will reinforce the international trust in the country and boost investments.
I don't trust the current government managing the Lebanese people's wealth
I just hope these politcians have enough common sense (I very much doubt it) to appoint technical experts to this committee and not bunch of political cronies.
Offshore exploration in the Lebanese water is expensive but it will cost Lebanon $ZERO. All the required capital will be provided by the successful bidder from the IOC's, and then upon an economic discovery, the fields will be developed and the profit will be split between the IOC and the Lebanese government based on a formula as stipulated in the contract with the IOC.
This could be real big for Lebanon, I just hope our lovely politicians don't blow it away as they typically do with everything else.
mabrouk for the lebanese, 1 year of exploitation will cover our debts
amazing
lol @ wake up, really? every project they undertook was a success till now, and more to come but you don't trust them? who do you trust? the gang who robbed us more than 100 billion $ over 15 years w ba3d ma fi tariq metlkhele2, ma fi kahraba, ma fi chi except hundreds of privately owned villas by hariri and his cronies?
some people just dont wanna go forward. they prefer the familiar status quo than the prospect of a real civilized country where you dont have to pay 2 bills for everything from water to electricity. the beauty of wakeup's phrase is that he leaves it open ended. he doesnt elaborate cos he has nothing remotely worth saying.
You have to understand sweating_demon, shlomo is sad, he cannot beat up children anymore, he only has a few thousand acres of cheap land to cultivate and has barely enough water to grow flowers in the desert.
Now this oil he could have gotten, if only 2006 had been kinder on him, would have been a nice bonus, but instead we dirty Arabs are trying to steal it from him. This is why you see so much frustration around this topic.
It is truly a cruel world for shlomo, when he came from Poland, Russia and the US he really thought that being a Jew entitled him to all the land, water, oil and riches around. But once again, the world has proven that everything and everyone conspires against Jews, because they are superior, they are chosen, and we cannot see it.
the filthy zionist information war department never had nothing remotely worth saying
@Roger,
You seem very knowledgeable about the technicalities involved, are you in the Oil & Gas sector? If yes then we probably know each other considering that only a handful of lebanese work in the field. Are you in KSA/Qatar/UAE?
Mowaten, i don't trust a government directed by a party who is involved in one of the biggest scandal of money laundering in the world, with networks in africa, europe and latin america... those people are thriving for money before anything else... The government is all mafia unless it is a technocrat government without any link to any party, country or internationa network
oh you mean an organization which had ties with other organizations or people which were DESIGNATED (that's the term used in the indictment) by the OFAC (an all powerful office who simply points fingers at whoever it wants without being controlled, and officially "enforces economic and trade sanctions based on U.S. foreign policy and national security goals against targeted foreign states, organizations, and individuals.")
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_Foreign_Assets_Control
accessorily, that office who "designated" several shia businessmen and companies as money launderers is run by http://www.allgov.com/Official/Szubin__Adam
the founder of D.C. Minyan, an Orthodox Jewish congregation.
read well: ORTHODOX jewish, you know, the sickos who massacre and steal in the name of god's promise. they decided Hezbollah was evil. so. credible. it. makes. me. weep.
Mowaten, so you are telling me that the Lebanese Canadian Bank has been bailed out by Soc Gen in 10 days time because some psycho orthodox jewish spread a wrong rumor and wrote an article about the mafia network?
You are just another brainwashed\low IQ lebanese guy (or girl) who explain the unexplainable by Amercan/jewish Conspiracies and don't use his brain to see things as they are
the filthy zionist information war department is portaying the financing of our glorious resistance as money laundring.
it's money laundring when usa sends you zillions of dollars each year
lol speak of brains. read again you missed the point by a few thousand miles.
who talked about rumors and articles? i am talking about the ofac, the US government's arm for economic warfare. the ofac, which is directed by adam szubin, the orthodox jew, is the one who arbitrarily produces the Specially Designated Nationals list, which is the basis for the accusations of money laundering.
in a few words: zionist extremist hijacking the US gov and designating people and businesses close to Hezbollah as entities with whom United States citizens and permanent residents are prohibited from doing business with. and using that arbitrary designation to file accusations.
also, revise your vocabulary, antoun sehnaoui, your friend from the welsch club, bought -not *bailed out*- the LCB, and how or why they managed to pressure them into selling is unclear and subject to speculation.
i wonder how much berri and bassil/aoun will make out of these oil deals. berri has already been personally invested in oil/gasoline projects as everyone knows.
Money laundring suspicions are based on facts that we could see in credible media channels (unless you think that Manar and Al Akhbar are more credible). let the Hezb prove otherwise or else he's just a mafia hiding behind resistance claims at the Lebanese people's cost
@ mowaten, can you please inform us where does Hezb get his money from?
money laundering is like dirty laundry but the money of our glorious resistance is clean like white snow on top of faraaya because it comes from patriotic people. your accusations will always fail because nobody care about them because they are stupidities
George, I am currently in the UAE. Maybe we can meet one day.
Wake Up Orange (Guest): as you said, your suspicions are based on media, and medias say what they want, regardless on whther it's true or not. such grave accusations are not for medias to issue and decrete, it's a judicial matter, not a sitcom, and no one can be asked to prove he is innocent as you suggest. if anything the accusers have to prove the guilt, or just keep their mouths shut.
@mowaten: are you a member/official of hezbollah? how can you speak with such certainty?
Mowaten, the story is not over yet... wait and see, and I am sure that i'll have an opportunity to remind you... in the meantime think of the scandal of Lebanese Can bank and how it got "bailed out" i insist on bailed out to prevent the collapse of the bank and probably the whole banking sector because of his involvement in the hezb dirty money
@mowaten, LOL you know now that you are lying...come on reslly "private donations" I would love to give hizb and its cronies a huge BIG donation from my private ...
Hahahaha, what private donations??? hahahah you are funny Mowaten... i really hope that you don't beleive what you are saying... i recommend that you go the Bekaa and have a look at what the Hezb is cultivating in every town he controls
and soon the hezb is going to take the biggest portion of oil proceeds because "he is protecting lebanon from the enemy" hahahah.... poor you, Lebanon is in the dark because a big portion of lebanese are like you Mowaten
allouchi just like your leaders love to donate to jund al sham or fatah al islam, there are supporters of hezbollah who'd love and who DO give them money. plus, everybody knows that the bulk of hezbollah's money comes from iran. big deal!
@Wake Up Orange (Guest)
'dirty' money never caused the collapse of banking sectors (:
i need to remind you that we're a fiscal paradise precisely because of our confidentiality laws in banking. this is a story for simple minds and i'm sorry that you bought it.
in 1975 and in the 80's, many banks got bankrupted and it wasnt due to anybody's dirty money, let alone hezbollah's. the US can bankrupt any bank
anytime anywhere just to show its target that they mean business. the 'dirty' money thingy is a pathetic excuse given to the medias. there are only 4 countries in the world who consider hezbollah a terror group: USA, israel, netherlands and canada. some brainwashs in lebanon also do because of the influence of the US on them. hezbollah as a lebanese entity has the right to deposit money anywhere they wish (except in the 4 countries i mentioned)
sweating_demon: i agree with most you said, just a point though: i insist, most of hezbollah's funding is from private donations. according to CIA iran gives 60 million$/year to hezbollah, according to iran and hezbollah it is 40 million. between those two figures the difference is very small so we can assume roughly 50 million. that's not even a third or quarter of their budget. the whole so-called network of money laundering is actually all the businessmen working in africa, south america and elsewhere who sent hezbollah donations. because OFAC "designated" hezbollah as an entity you can't send money too, these transactions are being accused now of being fraudulent.
it's only a hypocrite way of trying to cut the flow of funds to hezbollah to strangle it. US reisdents who send donations to israeli organizations, even when it's to extremist/violent orthodox groups get tax reductions. those who send to hezbollah are called terrorists and money launderers. big deal.

you have to laugh at this arrogant mowaten irani !!!He "insists" most of this terror organization finances come from shia private donors working in africa etc. LOL.... and then his hizb pays iran for all the weapons it buys through western union in u.s dollars!!!
Well donating money to the organization that killed the PM (and many other figures)of Lebanon, for me and the rest of the world can be considered as helping a terrorist organization... if you don't beleive me, "Ntor el tez2i2" as Michel Aoun used to say and his followers used to repeat like "perroquet"
the filthy zionist information war department would like know if someone here is a official member of hezb'allah.
mind of your own business.
the filthy zionist information war department see dark as light.
fanclub...good job
