Serbian world number three Novak Djokovic wants to pair up with Andy Murray, whom Djokovic beat to win the Australian Open, for the doubles tournament in Indian Wells, Sportske Novosti reported Wednesday.

"We spoke in Melbourne of the possibility of playing doubles together in Indian Wells and I will raise the issue again with him," Djokovic told the Serbian sports daily.

He added that he had not insisted on the possibility after world number five Murray lost the Australian Open finals in straights sets to Djokovic.

However the Serbian player was confident that "if he is up for playing doubles we will certainly play together".

Murray and Djokovic, both 23, have a longstanding friendship.

Indian Wells in California hosts the year's first Masters Series tournament in March.
