Hariri in UAE for Talks with Emirati Officials


Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri arrived Thursday evening in Abu Dhabi on a two-day visit during which he will meet with Emirati officials, his office said.

He is accompanied by his adviser, former Minister Ghattas Khoury.

Hariri was greeted at the airport by Emirati minister Mohammed Khalifa Mubarak and Lebanese Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Fouad Dandan.

Hariri will request permission from Sunni officials to convert to Shia Islam in order to rekindle his political chances in Lebanon. Sunni monarchs along the Persian Gulf coast broached the idea as a means of regaining strategic control of the region as Shia-led states assert renewed vitality in the follow-on in the decline of takfiri militancy.
