Diab Meets Kubis, Discuss UN Support for Lebanon

Prime Minister Hassan Diab held a meeting at the Grand Serail with UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jan Kubis where talks focused on ways to cooperate with the United Nations to help Lebanon combat the novel coronavirus pandemic, the National News Agency reported Wednesday.

Before meeting Diab, Kubis said in a tweet that he met with the UN leadership and urged support for Lebanon.

“In my video conference with UN leadership I urged massive international mobilization of support for Lebanon at least in 3 areas: fighting coronavirus emergency, social safety net and help for the most vulnerable as well humanitarian assistance,” he said.

Kubis added: “National emergency requires national efforts and unity. Hold your government to account if they do not take timely and effective measures, but give them political space to act. This isn’t the time for business as usual.”
