Nehme: Wheat Reserves Sufficient for Four Months

Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade Raoul Neheme said Wednesday that Lebanon has wheat reserves sufficient for four months after the massive port explosion that damaged the country’s only large grain silos.

“Lebanon has 32 tons in wheat reserves adding to 110 tons expected into Lebanon in two weeks. The reserves hence are sufficient for four months,” said Nehme in a tweet.

The WFP organization will kindly secure 17,000 tons of flour, which will be distributed to the areas affected by the blast.

The minister assured that Lebanon will not suffer of a wheat crisis.

The August 4 blast in Beirut’s port ripped the sides off towering grain silos that shielded part of the city from the shockwave. But the blast split thousands of tonnes of grain, vital to the import-dependent country's food security.
