Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour has said he discussed with Premier Najib Miqati about diplomatic appointments which have been finalized ahead of a government approval.

In remarks published Sunday, Mansour said: “The issue of diplomatic appointments is now in the stage of final touches.”

Miqati and Mansour held talks at the Grand Serail on Saturday.

The cabinet has so far failed to make diplomatic appointments.

Earlier in the month, discussions on the appointments were postponed after reportedly political forces interfered over sectarian causes, freezing the decision to appoint the secretary-general and the director of political affairs at the foreign ministry.

The ministry is currently witnessing vacancies in the two posts, in addition to 34 other diplomatic positions including changes in the ranks of 60 ambassadors, 15 general consuls and several secretaries.
