Bennett: Lebanon on Verge of Collapse, Israel Monitoring Situation

W460

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Sunday said that Lebanon is “on the verge of collapse,” in reference to the country’s severe economic and financial crisis.

“Lebanon is on the verge of collapse, like all countries that Iran takes over, and this time, the citizens of Lebanon are paying the price,” Bennett said during an Israeli cabinet meeting, according to an English-language statement published by his office.

“It must be understood that the citizens of Lebanon are paying a heavy price because of the Iranian takeover of the country,” Bennett added.

“We are closely monitoring what is happening there, (together with) both the Defense Minister and the Foreign Minister, and we will continue to be prepared,” the Israeli PM added.

He also cited Israel’s reported thwarting of an attempt to smuggle 47 handguns from Lebanon.

“Yesterday, the IDF (Israeli army) and the Israel Police captured smuggled handguns worth millions of shekels; of course, this is only one of many examples. We will continue to monitor the situation,” Bennett said.

“Lebanon is on the verge of collapse, like all countries that Iran takes over"

So true!

The problem is that the Lebanese authorities know quite well that they could have and still could avoid this, by simply moving forward on the path of normalisation with Israel.
You don't have to agree with everything the other side does and thinks to have relations with them.

Nonsense, we have normal relationships with most countries of the world, the problem isn’t the ‘occupation’ of Shebaa and the demarcation of the borders, the problem is the feudal system and the warlords .

Israel would have collapsed over 50 years ago if it weren’t for the hundreds of billions, if not trillions of US dollars.

There’s some truth in your claims, but Lebanon also got billions of aid and so did China .

apparently they made good use of that, as at least part of the money went to the benefit of the citizens… HA also got its billions from Iran, but instead of channeling them into something positive, they were used to build up a militia, invested in smuggling and drug manufacturing and used to finance the luxurious lifestyle of its leadership, while the Lebanese people got only the crumbles..
