A spiritual Christian-Islamic summit will be held at Bkirki on March 25 in the presence of the head of the Sunni, Shiite, Maronite and Druze spiritual leaders, along with the members of the Christian-Muslim Committee for Dialogue, the Central News Agency reported on Saturday.

“The past few days witnessed intensified contacts to stress the importance of holding a spiritual summit on March 25, which was agreed upon during the last summit at Dar al-Fatwa (in September),” sources from the Christian-Islamic Committee for Dialogue told the news agency.

Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi held a meeting on Saturday with the members of the Christian-Islamic Committee for Dialogue, seeking the possibility of holding a spiritual summit on March 25, according to the news agency.

The sources noted that the summit would be an opportunity for the spiritual leaders to prepare for Pope Benedict XVI expected visit on September 14-16

Benedict will bring a message of "peace in the Middle East," where violence has raged in Lebanon's neighbor Syria for a year.

The Bkirki spiritual summit will also discuss safeguarding Lebanon from the negative repercussions of the Syrian crisis, according to the sources.

“The spiritual leaders will hold onto the unique Lebanese community coexistence, that should be a model for the countries in the region,” they said.

The summit will also stress the importance of dialogue to resolve disputes, and the reinforcement of democracy.

The source noted that the spiritual leaders will not tackle the “narrow political” details.

This is a good step in the right direction although I am not an advocate of religious interference in politics. If they could do something to protect Lebanon so be it. Lebanon is bound to live in co-existence amongst its religious sides. If only they could create a viable economy to prevent immigration and work for the welbeing of the Lebanese instead of using religion to squable amongst each other.

Grownup men in dresses. Ok stay out of politics. Religion is poison

I am starting to like you a little shab. We do agree on this topic. Religion not only is poison. It sucks too. And it is evil.

Not God, just men's stupid religions which are all twisted to their benefit.

What you need to so shab is be equal oppurtunity. Blame and hate the zionist israel as much as you hate and blame HA then i am with you. The former evil cancer created the new little cancer. There would have been no cancer if it was not for the original cancer.

what you need to Do

Arzz, I never side with one party, or group, or a leader against another. My only interest is Lebanon and the Lebanese. Unfortunately time has shown they all are crooks, M8, M14 etc. Even the so called leaders of their sects. No turban, necktie, or otherwise will make a person holy, untouchable or a demigod. All should be replaced.
Time has proven Israel will stay put. But the Palestinian and Persian militia again and again provokes her to action like the July war, so whom should one hate most?
I have no place for all these war criminals from 1975-90, with Lebanese blood on their hands, yet they are still leaders of sects whom people follow blindly. Same goes for the actions by terrorist gangs on May 07 slaughtering civilians.
I wish for a secular Lebanon modeled after Turkey. Lebanon needs all it’s citizens from all sects, but religion and state apart.
I really don’t care what happens in other countries. I only despise murdering of innocent civilians anywhere.

Hey were the budhists, hindus, and jews invited? Common guys give the minorities a chance to voice their opinions.

While you are all at it I hope God sends a big stone from the heavens to destroy you all.

Thumb jabalamel 19 March 2012, 02:25

the filthy zionist media terrorists would like to present themselves as advocates of "religion out of politics" but they didn't have that attitude when former patriarch was in bkirki.

Thumb arzz 19 March 2012, 07:09
