Mansour Says Lebanese Community in Mali ‘Safe’

Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour said on Thursday that the Lebanese community in Mali is safe as renegade soldiers in the west African country claimed that they seized power.

Mansour revealed that he had made some contacts to inquire about the status of the Lebanese community.

The rebel soldiers said they had acted due to government's "inability" to handle a Tuareg-led insurrection in the north of the country.

What began as a mutiny over the government's response to the rekindled Tuareg rebellion in the north on Wednesday afternoon turned into a full-blown coup as soldiers seized control of the government broadcaster and attacked the presidential palace.

I think the Lebanese abroad are safe than within Lebanon... As in Lebanon we constantly live with rockets and Kalashnikovs aimed at us.
