Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat praised on Tuesday the residents of the northern region of Akkar for their support of the displaced Syrians who have sought refuge in the area.

He condemned attempts “by some authorities in power” to link terrorism to Akkar.

He made his statements after meeting with a delegation from the area, that included MPs Khaled al-Daher and Moeen al-Merhebi.

The PSP leader called on the authorities to assume their “moral and humanitarian” responsibilities towards the Syrian refugees.

In addition, the MP lauded the Akkar residents’ “courage and support for the Syrian people in their legitimate demand for freedom and democracy.”

For its part, the delegation thanked the MPs of Jumblat’s National Struggle Front for their support of the Akkar residents’ demands that the impoverished region be improved.

Thousands of Syrians have fled to Lebanon since the eruption of the Syrian people’s uprising against their country’s ruling regime.

The regime has met the protests with a violent crackdown that the United Nations said has left 9,000 dead.

Naharnet should put a warning message in bold and large fonts before any headline about Jumblat that says:
