The March 14 forces on Wednesday called for referring the attempt on Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea’s life to the Judicial Council, noting that the government’s “sudden” decision to “stop providing security agencies with telecom data” represents “collusion with the criminals.”

“March 14 calls for referring the assassination attempt against Dr. Samir Geagea to the Judicial Council, given that it was part of attempts to undermine security, civil peace and stability in the country and to target the scheme of building the Lebanese state,” said a statement issued by the March 14 forces after a broad meeting held in Maarab in solidarity with Geagea.

“The conferees call on the government to immediately reverse its decision … and to provide security agencies with telecom data, without any delay or obstructions, to enable them to perform their role in unveiling the criminals,” said the statement.

“The March 14 forces reserve their right to take all the appropriate political, legal and popular steps should the government fail to meet this demand,” the statement said.

The conferees stressed that the failed attack on Geagea was “an attack against the entire March 14 movement,” stressing that they will “confront any attempt to incite civil strife or put Lebanon once again under the mercy of terrorism.”

“The assassination attempts against MP Sami Gemayel, (Internal Security Forces chief) Maj. Gen. Ashraf Rifi and (ISF’s Intelligence Bureau chief) Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan are aimed at undermining the Independence Uprising’s achievements and quashing the spirit of change, which was launched by the Cedar Revolution and is being continued by the Arab Spring,” the conferees said.

“This spirit is capable of reviving the Lebanese experience and renewing the concept of pan-Arabism and its role at the political and cultural levels,” the March 14 forces added.

They said the botched attempt on Geagea’s life was “part of the rapid repercussions of the situation in Syria as much as it was aimed at undermining Lebanon and imposing certain political equations.”

“This explains the repeated use of methods they have been using for decades to demonstrate their subversive capabilities in the region,” said the statement.

In remarks addressed to the rival March 8 camp ahead of the meeting, March 14 General-Secretariat Coordination Fares Soaid said: “If you want to commit suicide, in solidarity with the dwindling Syrian regime, then commit suicide alone. We won’t allow you to drag Lebanon to where you want.”

“If you return to the period that preceded (the) Doha (Agreement), to the policy of political assassinations, we promise you that we will begin a peaceful uprising for the sake of Lebanon’s peace,” Soaid added.

In his opening remarks to the meeting, Geagea welcomed the conferees and briefed them on the details of the assassination attempt at the request of National Bloc leader Carlos Edde, revealing that “investigations have reached an advanced stage.”

Dear M14 we know the decisions were already printed yesterday you just read them tonight in Meerab, but at least have the cleverness of reading the news:"a judicial committee issued a resolution to block the access of the telecom data" are you pushing the government to break the law? As u know incitation to crime via promises or threats is punished by the law, thus u should all go to jail (again for some of you). Sorry for being harsh but the truth hurts

why the data is being blocked ? unless you have something to hide. we all know the laws in Lebanon are created and broken in convenient to who ever in power . so please don't tell me that all of the sudden we respect the rule of law .

The Hezz government witheld telecom data on the Harriri murder and all of the others too. What a coincidence.

The Hezz government didn't prosecure drug manufacturers caught red handed, or investigate the people who bought spoiled meat from Israel.

Nasrallah is a laughing stock in the region now.

Dear douchebags,
In any other country this information would have been handed over to the authorities. Only in Lebanon would this happen. And you are proud that the authorities are preventing a normal investigation. Why? M14 stands up for logic while you guys that just commented are arguing and saying it was refused ... Refused ... Refused... Ok but should it be and if yes why. Because you don't like geagea. What if hassouna was requesting these documents. Oh yes ... I remember ... He hides... No one tries to kill him. And if they did . He won't ask for the telecom data. He would take it. As he always does. It is because of him and people like you that I'm ashamed to be Lebanese

The government (political bureau) of the state, if it can't protect its own citizens (i.e. Syria) must depart simply for failing to achieve the basic level of managing the state.
The word government is derived from the Latin infinitive gubernare, meaning "to govern" or "to manage". Reference: Wikipedia.

So overnight, this troupe of boy-scout actors went from referring the latest farce of Dr. Jedeba Wmecheh to the International Farce House called the STL to referring it to the mother of all farces, the Judicial Council. Call it a tactical retreat a la Free Syrian Banditos.

Thumb cedar 12 April 2012, 04:03

i agree with their call on refering to the council.
they are following the legal steps in doing so.

However, ultimately - you cant be legal and win when people use illegal tactics against you, you have to fight fire with fire.

kortbawi, a aounist is the minister of justice, and that says it all. :)

Thumb geha 12 April 2012, 06:20

the syrian regime and hizbushaitan are cornered
- the syrian regime has his internal problems
- hizbushaitan has the imminent israeli threat of a devastating war and wants to silence all opposition ahead of this war.
so in their twisted mind they think that if they kill Geagea and Joumblat, they could take over the country and be able to face israel better.
you would think that they should have learned something since the Hariri assassination! they are in for major surprise :)
