Fadlallah Urges Serious Probe into Shaaban Death, Bazzi Warns against 'Creating Another Enemy'

Hizbullah MP Hassan Fadlallah on Sunday urged a “serious and responsible probe” into the killing of al-Jadeed cameraman Ali Shaaban on Monday by gunfire from the Syrian side of the border with Lebanon’s Wadi Khaled, as AMAL Movement MP Ali Bazzi warned against “creating another enemy on our border with Syria.”

Speaking at a ceremony commemorating Shaaban one week after he and two of his al-Jadeed colleagues came under heavy gunfire from Syria while filming a report on Lebanon’s northern border with Syria, Fadlallah said: “Ali practiced the profession of problems, which led him to that troubled area where he was supposed to audio-visually transmit the facts and events from a border witnessing a lot of ambiguity.”

He described Shaaban as “the martyr of media,” calling for a “serious and responsible probe that unveils all circumstances and clears any ambiguities.”

“The responsibility is on the Lebanese government and all its agencies and on the judiciary” to investigate the deadly incident, said the Hizbullah lawmaker.

“The issue has become a national cause and has been condemned by all political forces and groups, away from some people’s attempts to politicize it, and it has been also condemned by the state and the people in Syria,” he added.

“We in Lebanon have an enemy that is lying in wait in order to seize the chances. We have a sole enemy on our southern border that is awaiting the chance to attack our country, our people and our state. This enemy -- that had been betting on chaos, civil wars and seditions from the Syrian gate and the other Arab gates -- has recently declared its disappointment over the fall of its bets, illusions and dreams to corner or isolate this resistance,” Fadlallah noted.

For his part, MP Bazzi said “many parties have tried to take advantage of this killing.”

He also called for a speedy investigation, warning against any attempt to “create another enemy on our border with Syria.”

Bazzi accused some parties of trying to portray Iran and Syria as “enemies” of “the Arab nation.”

“They have forgotten that the Israeli enemy is the sole enemy for the Arab and Islamic nation and for the blood of martyr Ali Shaaban and other martyrs,” Bazzi added.

He also called for closing ranks in Lebanon, warning of “attempts to fragment the region and incite strife between sects and religions.”

What does the sad death of this man have anything to do with Israel ??

Thumb jabal10452 15 April 2012, 17:46

Dear Fadallah and Bazzi:

As far as I'm concerned Lebanon has two enemies and only two enemies. One of them is external and it is called Syria under its current regime. The other enemy is Hezbollah.

Thats it. Forget Israel. At least Israel always recognized Lebanon as a country, which cannot be said about the Syrians.

Thumb shi3i 15 April 2012, 18:52

Dear jabal10452 :
Our enemies are Israel and its agents in lebanon aka Geagea (Zahhra 2ankazatni) and Gemayel

Thumb jabal10452 15 April 2012, 19:13

Dear shi3i,

In this case you an I are enemies. Let's agree on this and keep our confrontations civil.

Thumb jabal10452 15 April 2012, 23:42

FT, you appear to instinctively connect the term "confrontation" with a physical act of violence. You should reconsider.

I am perfectly comfortable with shi3i being my political enemy, and I we have already confronted each other in a civil manner without trading cheap insults. He thinks that my views are bad for the country, and I feel the same about his political views. Nothing personal here.

And yes, I am looking forward to "eliminating" the other party AT THE VOTING BOOTH, IN PARLIAMENT AND IN DEBATE FORUMS, and not with weapons, butchery and political assassinations.

Missing ReaLeb 16 April 2012, 05:10

Well, my political views are identical to jabal10452. Whether you like it or not, it doesn't bother me at all. You leave me alone, I leave you alone.

Missing tripolian 15 April 2012, 20:56

Speak for yourself jabal10452. Not many lebanese would agree with you on that. Israel will always be our enemy until its dismantled. And at least half of the lebanese also consider the syrian regime as our enemy as well.

Thumb jabal10452 15 April 2012, 23:47

tripolian, I started my post with "as far as I'm concerned", meaning that I am speaking for nobody but myself.

You want to hate Israel in perpetuity? Be my guest.

Missing forces 16 April 2012, 13:26

tripolian when is hezb going to take up the jordanian issue and ask jordan be dismantled? wasn't that country formed from annexure and didn't they kill the palestinians as well?? why the double standard? i s there another motive for having those weapons and holding all that hate? or is it because the jordanians are muslims that makes it ok however all non muslims are not acceptable. Hypocrisy on a grand scale.

Fadlala's needs and nieces stop talking and hanging out with him a long time ago when they discovered who their uncle was. I know this for sure as one of them is one of my brothers best friend.

The muslim majority in the south cannot forget the israeli occupation of the south although in my opinion ( taking that quote from jabal10452) they had some sort of perceived justification under the self defense argument, again thanks to our palestinian brothers that contributed to that mess. However they want the rest of us to forget about our beloved neighbour that occupied us and murdered our families & friends indiscriminately. They will tell us that israel is the enemy because it occupies palestine so we need an army ready to defend ourselves when we try defending the palestianian cause again. ie. start trouble. They seem to be oblivious to the fact that all Israeli attacks have been retaliator where Syria was agression. But it is Ok to love Syria cause it feeds them.

How about the fishermen and the boy who was shot dead by the Syrian navy and his uncles were beaten in the Syrian jail few months ago, until the president of Lebanon called Bashar to release them? was that also Israel work?

Missing mohammad_ca 15 April 2012, 18:50

What about the others that were killed by the ASSad regime..wala they don't count because they are not shia? Are they going to blame Israel now too???

Same old garbage... I wonder if they look under theirs beds at nigth to make sure no Israelis are there.

Default-user-icon Gabby (Guest) 15 April 2012, 21:26

ASSad does not have to be created, he already exists as the supreme enemy of Lebanon. The problem is the mafia elements of Lebanon consider him as a friend.

I wonder what the dialog in Shia living rooms is about this murder by ASSad on one of their own in such a public way, yet ASSad is defended by corrupt Hezz leaders.

@Shi3i, dear brother in Lebanon, Stop saying that geagea and Gemayel are agents, we both know there is nobody that didnt spy for Israel or even collaborated with them, But you have to see it with different point of views, Anyway when Sayyed Hassouni says he has spies btween Hezbollah officials and then doesnt even say a word about them anymore, I wonder who is the agent. Second, your allies in the FPM have their beloved karam that gave information about yt our great resistance and even his own friends. But you still managed to get him out early as a hero. Finally all your bullshit about Israel is not funded and you , Hezbollah and Bachar are the biggest Zionist collaborators of the century.

Default-user-icon Skyfall (Guest) 16 April 2012, 06:45

So go back to your home , clear up your mind and work for Lebanon and stop following a coward that hides in a hole while everybody is targeted and not only him. Be Lebanese, integrate in the lebanese army only and lets fight all together any form of occupation from Zionists to syrians to americans to iranians.

Thumb kesrweneh 16 April 2012, 11:27

clashes always happens between neighboring nations, the legal thing to do is to investigate, blame and retribute. the political thing to do is to attack the political ennemy and try to gain some votes. However, just remember that when Harriri was Pm he and his minions (LF KAtaeb etc.) considered syria as a neighbor and Israel as an ennemy, so there is no reason for FPM and March 8 to think differently

I think there are no longer any "ambiguities"

For me, if we all agree that we have 2 enemies Syria and Israel, and fight hand in hand and side by side against any outside interference. there will not be any animosity between us Lebanese. neither Israel or Syria gives a crap about us.
