Harb Slams As Safir Daily over his Front Page Photo

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Opposition MP Butros Harb considered on Friday the photo that As Safir newspaper published on its front page as “evidence of the campaign staged by the March 8 forces on the March 14 coalition” over U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman’s visit to Beirut.

He mocked what he called a “caricature picturing him as bowing to Feltman,” noting that he was “welcoming the guest and directing him to his seat.”

As Safir published on its front page a photo of Harb picturing him bowing to Feltman while U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly was standing next to him.

“We are used to bowing only to God, and we will not give up our convictions and dignity,” Harb said in comments to Voice of Lebanon radio (100.5).

He told the radio that Feltman’s visit was aimed at “stressing the U.S. support to the Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability and safeguarding it against the Syrian repercussions.”

Feltman arrived in Beirut on Tuesday night and held talks with top Lebanese officials.

Grow up redneck. Still it is a true picture, doesn't matter if As safir newsworthy or not. You have to admit, it is funny. If it was me, I would say that I felt faint and almost fell down. Thank God Feltman was there to support me.

Thumb Bandoul 04 May 2012, 23:57

The only redneck I see is the wannabe american that is you.

May be Harb had mistaken Feltman to God ? An honest mistake.

Unlike Sayyed Nasrallah who thinks he is God and plays God every moment

Missing ydafylsa 04 May 2012, 14:29

Sorry guys no offence I do not doubt that Mr. Harb was leading Mr. Feltman to his seat but still it is such a funny picture! congratulations for the photographer who caught the moment!

enbita7 da2em. Actually, he knelt down to pick up his whatever dignity and honor he has left of him.

Thumb chrisrushlau 04 May 2012, 15:21

And then you wonder why so many Europeans call Arabs "hajjis"?

Thumb beiruti 04 May 2012, 15:34

And Nasrallah bows and kisses the hand of Khameini. But Nasrallah was not directing Khameini to his chair, Nasrallah was bowing in an actual demonstration of submission and fealty to his master in Iran.

The Pope, my friend, is a religious leader, only. He is not a political leader much less one who claims the power to direct the political decisions of other states.
The problem is not that Nasrallah shows respect to a spiritual leader, but that he submits to the temporal authority of a foreign head of state.

Harb never stops proving that he is another floor mat.

Thumb lebneneh 04 May 2012, 16:26

sakhafeh!!! too much!

Default-user-icon Nizar (Guest) 04 May 2012, 16:34

You direct someone to his seat - fine, but you do not need to bow so LOW!
I guess it is second nature - bowing to your master - a typical self serving Lebanese politician- with Syria - without Syria,Israel, US - all welcome - these people just want to stay around and seem relevant!

Default-user-icon Skyfall (Guest) 04 May 2012, 18:00

You all are disgusting you have no sense of observation. Dont you see harbs right hand extended showing a direction to ehat probably is a seat? By the way all aristocrates used the same kind of welcoming and seating for their guests. There is no shame in welcoming and showing the way to your seat. But of course what can you do. March 8th people are used to submission to iran and syria and to be jazmet. So they throw it back on people like harb. By the way harb never went to anjar and was always against syrian influence check ur facts. Its nayla mouawad, jumblat, hamadeh, soaid that all used to go to anjar...

Default-user-icon Tabatibo (Guest) 04 May 2012, 18:09

Once a floor mat, always a floor mat.

Missing youssefhaddad 04 May 2012, 20:46

Most of those who commented on this photo on facebook, here and elsewhere have proven how dangerously superficial the political discourse remains in Lebanon.
Does it matter if Harb was bowing to Feltman or showing him his seat? Those who are worried about the Lebanese dignity being injured by this photo should take a look at the slums where many Lebanese live and at the little children begging on intersections and at simple citizens bowing to politicians in order to get help. There is not much dignity except an illusionary one.

So now it's Assafir's fault that the low life went so typically low to let Al Safirs (past and present) ride on his back as in a rodeo. Heee Hawww

Default-user-icon paparazzo (Guest) 04 May 2012, 21:23

This is the exact pose Michel Aoun had when he first met Bashar but Bashar was facing the other way and Aoun was puckering.

Default-user-icon LebExile (Guest) 04 May 2012, 22:39

I dont want to bring March14/March8 into this, but that bow was definately too much for showing someone their seat. Usually if your sohowing someone their seat you gesture with your hand only - not sure why he's bowing so low in this - I find it odd myself.... just saying

Default-user-icon Rabadgio (Guest) 05 May 2012, 04:19

Here is what Boutros Harb was heard saying as he bent over:
Hop on my back, boys, Butros Horse is ready for the Rodeo.
