Speaker Nabih Berri on Thursday said he discussed with Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awadh Asiri the possibility of calling the leaders of the national dialogue committee to a meeting under the chairmanship of President Michel Suleiman that would “at least discuss” the latest unrest in Tripoli.

Following a meeting in Ain al-Tineh, Berri said talks with Asiri also tackled “the need for the Lebanese to take a unified stance in order to find an urgent, effective and permanent solution to the situation in the North.”

The parliament speaker warned that “what happened and is still happening in Tripoli poses dangerous consequences, not only to the North but also to entire Lebanon and the region.”

Asked about the Saudi ambassador’s stances, Berri said: “He was very positive and he will conduct contacts with all the parties concerned and I hope that will yield good results.”

Later on Thursday, the Saudi envoy visited Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat and discussed with him the latest developments.

Why oh why must we always resort to none-Lebanese to try and solve our issues for us? Really, news like this (whether the interlocutor is Saudi or Iranian or Syrian or whatever) always makes the Lebanese appear as immature teenagers in need of a mature authority to solve their problems. Pathetic.

Right on lebanonfirst.... you took the words out of my mouth. In addition to immaturity, we have misplaced loyalties driven by religious affiliations as opposed to strong nationalism. Maybe one day the Lebanese mind will outgrow their present leanings and realize that their only salvation is in putting Lebanon first.
