Aoun: Arrest of Soldiers Linked to Akkar Incident is Unacceptable

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Free Patriotic Movement MP Michel Aoun slammed on Tuesday the sides that criticized the army’s role in the Kweikhat incident that led to the death of Sheikh Ahmed Abdul Wahed on Sunday, saying that they will regret their words.

He said after the Change and Reform bloc’s weekly meeting: “It’s unacceptable to arrest the soldiers after the incident.”

They should have instead been summoned for questioning, he remarked.

Abdul Wahed and Sheikh Mohammed Merheb were killed at an army checkpoint in northern Lebanon on Sunday, sparking outrage in the region and clashes in the Beirut neighborhood of Tariq al-Jedideh between Mustaqbal Movement and Arab Movement Party supporters that left two dead.

Aoun said: “The army will remain the only power that we trust. All the officials who criticized the army will regret their words.”

“Who allowed the residents of Akkar to carry arms?” he asked.

“The incident at the checkpoint was premeditated as they want to undermine the authority of the army,” noted the MP.

“Who gave them permission to block roads? Who allowed them to attack the army?” he wondered.

Heavy criticism was issued against the army during Abdul Wahed and Merheb’s funeral, with some officials and Akkar residents demanding the resignation of the army commander and the army’s withdrawal from the North.

“Who allowed them to harm Syria’s security from Lebanon?” Aoun asked.

He then quoted the eighth article of the Arab League charter that demands that each participating country respect the other, which also entails refraining from changing a particular country’s regime.

“The Lebanese government that has chosen to distance itself from the developments in Syria should also make its media distance itself from the Syrian crisis,” he noted.

“The government’s lax approach is what got us here,” declared the FPM leader.

“It’s time for the government to open its eyes otherwise it will face a fate worse than those carrying arms,” he stated.

“To what extent does the army force the residents of Akkar to commit to the national charter?” wondered Aoun.

Timeline
  • 22 May 2012, 17:24

Aoun: They want chaos in Lebanon. They not only want the Free Lebanese Army, but an independent state in Dahiyeh and a buffer zone in the North.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:22

Aoun: Is it acceptable that the incident at an army checkpoint should develop into clashes into Tariq al-Jedideh? Isn’t this a crime? They even started demanding the death penalty for the perpetrators.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:19

Aoun: We are aware of what is happening and this is how matters developed in 1975.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:19

Aoun: Al-Jaafari is not lying about the developments in Tripoli or Jounieh.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:18

Aoun: Military personnel must not be arrested, but they should perform their duties.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:16

Aoun: The division of Lebanon will be the product of the division of the region and not the other way around.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:16

Aoun: The Sheikh’s death was aimed at harming the authority of the army.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:15

Aoun: Those demanding the withdrawal of the army should shut up. Who is better than the army to defend the country?

  • 22 May 2012, 17:15

Aoun: The soldier who shot at the Sheikh must not be arrested, but he should be summoned before an investigation.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:13

Aoun: We reject all reactions to the Sheikh’s death and the army’s authority will remain intact. It is the only power we believe in. They will pay the price for the crazy celebration they staged in Akkar.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:12

Aoun: Is it acceptable to condemn the army before the investigation is complete? Haven’t we said that Feltman and Lieberma’s visis were aimed at creating a buffer zone for the Syrian refugees?

  • 22 May 2012, 17:11

Aoun: To what extent does the government obligate the residents of Akkar to commit to the national charter? The detainee is accused with smuggling arms to Syria.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:10

Aoun: Everyone knows that seeking refuge in another country starts with asking for help and ends in mutiny. We have reservations on the government’s performance.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:09

Aoun: Each country is free to choose the regime it wants.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:08

Aoun: The government must distance its people and media from the developments in other countries. Let them choose the regime they want.

  • 22 May 2012, 17:07

Aoun: The Arab League charter stated that each member country should respect the other and pledge to never alter the other’s regime.

F.T, what is the interest of the christian community, whose young men are all over the gulf working and providing for their families, to be put at war with the sunis? just think with your head and masla7a please because Aoun is rich enough to go anywhere and those left behind would pay the unbearable price. The words of Aoun are so racist, so arrogant, so irresponsible and are precisely the reason that fundamentalists are on the rise. A potential civil war is nothing like the past and the borders would be erased and all kinds of crazies would come to fight and destroy the country. I hope you come to your senses and understand the ramifications of such irresponsible words and that we need moderation. A fundamentalist she3a-suni war would probably push the christian presence in lebanon to extinction.

He's reading from the Arab League Charter that prohibits one Arab Regime from participating in changing the government of another member, yet he supports the Assad Regime whose intervention in Lebanon forced a change of regime from M14 to M8.
And of course, of course, the soldiers and officers involved in the check point incident must be arrested. If for no other purpose, by leaving them at large, this would inflame the situation worse than it is already inflamed. By affecting the arrest of the soldiers, at least this can help to keep the country calm and stable.
Of course, this is not Aoun's purpose nor that of his master in Daheyieh nor his master's master in Tehran.
Aoun cares nothing for Lebanon, only for what he can milk from her.

yesterday syria was the main thief of the lebanese treasury now it s only hariri and sinioura!
yesterday lebanon shouldn t negotiate or listen to syria till the assads were in power, now the very same family are angels!

Answer : Who gave Hizb supporters to the same ( today for example)

3.To what extent does the army force the residents of Akkar to commit to the national charter?

Answer: Do I have to answer this one?

A avid follower (vive le Libon et vive le general) and co-villager of this mono-dimensional don-quijote-de hadeth was telling me yesterday that the whole thing was the result of a "Sunni conspiracy"... It never crossed his simple mind that the Syrian moukhabarats could have been behind those nasty events? Why are Aoun and his followers so sectarian? What are their motives-in case they have any? They are not doing anyone a favour with their basic stances. One thing is being a populist leader another one is trying to get vote by encouraging sectarian division at a time we are trying to put the past behind us: Unfortunately Nasrallah is not likely to do something about it as he would rather keep changing Aoun's nappies and using him for destroying the state to the benefit of the hizb.

I find it comical that people follow Lebanese leaders including GMA without the slightest analysis to what they are saying. They mostly spout garbage and their followers cheers them on and are ready to follow them to the abyss!! At one point, when a lot younger, I was one of these people and was ready to follow him to whatever fate. I look at him now and he is another power hungry and pathetic Lebanese politician who have confused their own narrow interest with the national interest.

@ Sophia_angle, keep up the supporter for the general honey, i hope he gives you more than one seat in parliament and at least one woman minister, as well as real decision making rather than propaganda.
@ Flamethrower, on the contrary, it is funny to me when Cockroach Aoun appears on TV, well known sources that we know close to doctors that treat him have told us he takes shots of insuline everyday and has high blood pressure. Which indicated he is taking you with him in his delusions. We are all against salafis, but the act of the army was clearly done under syrians order to kill the cheikh rather than at least arrest him and investigate. It was an order to provoque. As if the lebanese army is not breached... i belive in a lebanese army that is fair for all, not a lebanese army that doesnt dear to shoot at syrians soldiers when they shoot lebanese citizens on the border, not a lebanese army that doesnt enter dahiyeh, not a lebanese army that is standing by in tripoli.

4.Those demanding the withdrawal of the army should shut up. Who is better than the army to defend the country? HEZB EXCLUDED.

do you not see where this crazy f%$&k is taking our country. I thought he was talking about the actions of hezb until he mentioned akkar. But you are OK with Hezb demonstrating all of the above not anyone else right? I heard nothing from him when the army had to ask permission from hezb to enter a town to arrest a drug dealer and was refused. open your eyes!! hating one side doesn't justify this idiots twisted self serving idiology or your support for him.

yes Allah y7mi , min 7alou.. in his old age he is starting to forget things and say things he doesn't understand, God forbid he starts playing with knives. No need to worry about the electricity though that won't kill him..
