Video Shows Syrian Tank Crushing Body of Dissident

In a graphic video posted to YouTube on Friday by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Syrian tank is seen running over the body of a dissident fighter.
A group of four tanks and an open truck carrying approximately 10 soldiers are seen parked on a dirt road while others in uniform and one man in plain clothes casually mill around the area.
A soldier on one of the tanks films as his vehicle begins to move, panning down to the dead body of a dissident on the road between the tanks, his body completely disfigured and bloody, and his head already split open.
The tank proceeds to run over the body as the soldiers in the truck observe the scene.
A soldier, who appears to be the one filming the scene, then faces the camera, his face stern, saying nothing. He points the camera to the gun of the tank and then to the man in plain clothes, who slaps hands with another soldier as they walk away from the tank.
Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman told Agence France Presse by phone that the man shown on the ground, along with a second crushed body not pictured, were confirmed to be dissidents.
The footage was taken March 14 at a checkpoint in Al-Bara village in northwest Idlib province, according to the Britain-based watchdog.
In a statement released with the video, the Observatory says the footage "confirms the horror and brutality that regime forces use against Syrian dissidents, even after their deaths."
The Observatory "condemns in the strongest terms the heinous treatment of the corpses of the martyrs and demands that the Syrian authorities respect the bodies of the dead, be they protesters or fighters, and hand them over to their relatives for a proper burial."
It also called for the prosecution of those committing such "acts of insanity, for which humanity should be ashamed."
Viewers are cautioned that the images seen in the released video are extremely gruesome:

Well I have thought there might be a political solution to end the syrian crisis but this wouldn't be the right thing . The rebels have to fight assad till the end because he deserved to be punished for the atrocities he had done. The international community should at least support the rebels with weapons and other resources !!

The thank you Syria crowd cheered when the Syrian army did this in Lebanon in 1990 why should they act otherwise here? The coward Aoun even absolved the Syrian regular army of these crimes when from Damascus university no less proclaimed that regular armies don't execute their captives only militias do.

Peace, I condemn this, but I am not an M8 supporter (I am an independent leftist). When are M14 supporters are going to condemn the murder of Innocent Christians and Alewites (not armed fighters) by Syrian opposition??? The fact that it is rarely mentioned in Naharnet is not an excuse!

Simply incredible. Assad ruled through terrorizing the people into submission. He is apparently attempting to restore the order that existed ante bellum by these acts of brutality. As well as the murder of small children at Houla.
What he does not know is that publication of scenes like this do not dishearten the Syrian Freedom Fighters. It only compels them to fight that much harder. If the fate of this person under the treads of a Syrian tank await the Freedom Fighters if they give up, then its better to die in the cause of liberation, than to give up and die under the tread of a Syrian tank.
It won't work Bashar. You are only making your opponents in Syrian more determined with your shows of barbarity.

Even though I have no doubt in my mind that Syrian regime committed war crimes (like opposition), both sides have shown phony videos. The opposition showed a picture of large number of dead civilians in "Syria", which turn out to be taken in Chechnya years ago.

The worst of humanity... Even without any proof, just assuming some probability that this is the works of the regime should make people who defend him blindly think twice... Taking and publishing pictures has become much easier today, but we have similar pictures of our own war as well. This also should be a reminder for the people who promote hatred on this site that war is ugly and it is beyond anyone's control.
