Aoun from Zahle: Alternatives in Syria Do Not Believe in Democracy

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun said Friday that “the alternatives in Syria do not believe in democracy,” pointing out that the Syrian opposition will not fulfill its promises once it rises to power.

After his talks with Zahle and Bekaa Greek Catholic Archbishop Issam Darwish, Aoun said that the meeting was important in the light of the events witnessed in Syria and the Middle East region, mainly because the number of Christians is decreasing in Palestine, Iraq, Syria and probably Lebanon.”

The FPM leader stated that Lebanon is affected by the Syrian clashes, considering that “the alternatives in Syria do not believe in democracy and will not fulfill their promises once they rise to power.”

Aoun arrived Friday to Zahle on a three-day visit, during which he will meet religious and local figures.

Former Minister Elias Skaff and Aoun’s one-time ally boycotted the FPM leader’s visit to the city, and told al-Jadeed TV that the visit falls in “a political and electoral context,” pointing out that “every person has his own considerations and we will run the elections according to the circumstances.”

Skaff also told LBC that “Zahle is a symbol and one of the greatest Christian cities in the Orient but why do they want to weaken it?

“We are not against anyone but we want this city to be strong,” he added.

Islam dont believe in democracy Mr Aoun so its sharia law all around for us and Israel, how lovely.

If a muslim writes a comment about christianity, all of the usual naharnetists fight that person but when one of you maronites insult Islam, all of a sudden, all of you are silent. None of you tell him to shut up. Hypocrisy. You have always hated muslims, its just that you dont dare to show that hate as often as you did before bcuz now muslims have more power in lebanon. Had it not been for that, you would be burning mosques by now.

Default-user-icon Horus (Guest) 23 June 2012, 02:01

Your dreaming ya Beirut-s, the Muslims had the same mentality as yours back in the 70s and we saw what happened. The Maronites made Lebanon and pushed for Lebanon so show one time in its history when we started burning the mosques, on the other hand I have countless times when you demolished Churches.

Dont forget that the Christians might be a minority in Lebanon but they are the MAJORITY LEBANESE !!!

Missing beiruti_s 23 June 2012, 01:42

You should be so lucky to have sharia law. With sharia law, people live with their rights protected unlike what we see in lebanon today.

beiruti... You want Sharia law then go live in SA or Iran based on your sect. Don't impose it on others. I'm a Lebanese atheist that believe in Lebanon first and then freedom of religion and I would appreciate it if i can live under a civil law and I would also appreciate it if people like you can get educated you IGNORANT... Neither Muslim or Christian... Remember: The monkey, the man THEN the God

Default-user-icon Lebneneh ehhh (Guest) 23 June 2012, 02:04

@beiruti_s also PLEASE do not call yourself Beiruti and make such Ignorant comments!! you are ruining the history of such an open city to all religions. Please go read a book and get educated and stop being so narrow minded. Thank you

Thumb lebanon_first 23 June 2012, 21:01

The comment above is not an insult. Why are you feeling attacked? Islam and democracy dont have a very good history up to now that is a fact!... But Who said democracy is the best thing for people? Democracy is good for america. I dont know if it is good for the middle east...
Insofar as burning mosques, we dont do that. First moslems are our brothers and partners in lebanon. second we are a religion of forgiveness and love, and third we dont burn things, and specially places of worship...
So man cool down, you have much more in common with your christian lebanese partners than with moslem nonlebanese... You have a country to build.

Islam political process does include voting , its called shoura!..but democracy is not just about voting, Democracy locates sovereignty to the state..while In Islam Allah and only him is Sovereign ..In Democracy the state makes Law..In Islam Allah makes Law..so the issue is not about freedom..its about not associating a partner to Allah , which in the modern day is the state !..and this is intolerable in Islam since its a monotheistic religion !

Thumb lebneneh 23 June 2012, 00:56

The problem with most religious politics is that the people implementing it very often believe they are implementing gds will or gods law which make them very inflexible and very basic things become very offensive to them for example the principle of a state is outrageous to yourself because you believe that you are associating a partner to god. What you need to understand that since the profits are all gone, most of religion these days is an interpretation which differs from one person to another. What you believe is not necessary what another person believes even though they are of the same religion as yourself but that's where democracy comes into play again....let the majority decide.

Default-user-icon Yousefbeik (Guest) 23 June 2012, 01:19

@Rastafarian... I'm sorry but you are not making sense! The issue is totally about freedom!!! What about the Christians, non believers and other minorities ? do they too have freedom when you force them to go by Muslim Allah Law when a majority Muslims vote for it? are you serious?? Please do not compare democracy to ANY religious law whether Christian or Muslim. Democracy is about all the citizens of a nation coming together to determine public policy and law regardless of color or religion.. PLEASE DO NOT compare Democracy to Sharia Law.

Default-user-icon Reff Furry (Guest) 23 June 2012, 00:59

I disagree. They believe in democracy but only after they force the exodus of the minorities/infidels and slaughter the ones they get their hands on. We have to be precise with what we say before being categorical.

Thumb lebnanfirst 23 June 2012, 02:18

There can never be coexistence between people with different spiritual beliefs but with separation of church/mosque and state.
All other solutions have proved to be unworkable. Don't kid yourselves or others with narratives about how great Islam or Christianity are. Separate civil from spiritual for the sake of Lebanon's survival.

Default-user-icon The Truth (Guest) 23 June 2012, 02:18

Yes because the current rulers of Syria are truly democratic. How does he know the opposition would not bring democracy? Egypt is having elections, Tunisa had elections and Libya will have elections soon and all those oppositions had islamists in their ranks.

The ones that don't believe in democracy are the ones killing unarmed protesters with artillery shells and tanks.

Default-user-icon johndoe (Guest) 23 June 2012, 02:57

"the alternatives in Syria do not believe in democracy and will not fulfill their promises once they rise to power.”
Mr.Aoun sure has a fail-proof crystal ball. He knows absolutely positively that the future of Syria will be bleak if the opposition wins.
His dictator friend and mentor, and his father before him, have for the last forty years shown the world what democracy is all about. What a joke! As Lebanese Mr.Aoun, you more than anybody else, have tasted the sweet wrath of the Assad's democracy. Why did you flee to France? What about the thousands of Lebanese who disappear during your friend's "democratic" 29 year rule of your beloved Lebanon? What did your democracy loving friend tell you about them? And what kind of plan will he and his other worshipers have for Lebanon if he stays in power? The people who voted for you and your party would like to know.

Thumb Abubakr 23 June 2012, 04:49

@ Lebneneh
Its not me who beleives that its Islam..any one who doesnt is misguided ..Allah says so..not me ..The problem with democracy is that , the people who elect locate sovereignty in it ..and the new sovereign state now makes law and can legalize something Allah prohibited ..this is Unislamic ..if a muslim accepts that , he is misguided ! this associating a partner to Allah which is the unforgivable sin in Islam ..So as muslims , we are getting fucked by this democracy and it can lead us ashtray according to our beleifs !

Thumb Abubakr 23 June 2012, 04:54

Again we can have votings for anything..but dont mistake voting for democracy ..voting is not the issue between Islam and Democracy..All religions beleive in the Pharoah story..when Pharoah declare that sovereignty was his..it was bad and Allah had punished him..now the govt is doing the same , its saying im sovereign , and it will have the same fate, if it continues !

Thumb Abubakr 23 June 2012, 04:57

and theres no interpretation in Islam ,, everything is plain and simple ! the arabic language has ''kawa3id'' with each word having a set of rules if u remember (akala el walad al tuffa7a ) each word has perfect rules and explanation..thats why theres no place for interpretation in the quoraan ..This is the miracle of the arabic language !

Missing cedars 23 June 2012, 05:58

Bravo to Skaf because he spoke the truth. United we stand.
To the philosophers who brought religion into politics, this is where you have to stop: Politics and Religions do not go along, Politics= None are clean, Religion teaches you how to be clean.

Thumb cedar 23 June 2012, 07:40

You all have it wrong. If you think politics and religion are separate then you are kidding yourselfs. God himself said they were one in the same where he said to Adam you shall have dominion over the lands, which means the people shall rull themselves. This is true in Christianity, but in Islam and Judaism they are rulled by the devil who issues the orders down the chain of command.

Quote from the Koran:

O you who believe(muslims),take not the Jews and the Christians as (friends, protecters) because they are(polytheists) and if anyone of you does than surely he is one of them because they are a unproud, unjust and wrongdoers.

Thumb Abubakr 23 June 2012, 13:04

@Pheneicien , thanks for this !
If you read the context of this surah ..you will understand that Allah is not talking about all christians and jews ..Allah is telling us , that at some point certain christians and certains jews will make an alliance , do not take these jews and christians as allies , for they are allies of each other , and those who takes them as allies is one of them...its talking about a certain even !! can be the modern world ? anglo-american-israeli Alliance :O..

or actualy anglo-american-israeli-arab alliance !!!!

Thumb Abubakr 23 June 2012, 13:07

@ pheonicien this surah proves ..u cant take something isolated you must read the hole book to understand it !
"Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians -- whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord. And there will be no fear for them, nor shall they grieve" (2:62, 5:69, and many other verses).

Thumb phoenician 23 June 2012, 13:48

@Rasta

Absolute non sense.....

So how come this particular verse i am talking about or even nowhere in the Koran does God Refer to Muslims as polythiests unjust and wrongdoers instead God refers to them as Believers and monothiests. How come at the end of the Koran there is at least 20 pages dedicated to criticising the Christians the Holy Gospel and that we are polythiests. You are fighting a loosing battle here Sir because all the information i have mentioned on here is from the Koran.

Rasta man, cool down. You are probably living abroad... and hence are seeing christians in a very negative point of view. But we are christian Lebanese man. We see the hypocrisy of the west like you do... we see their failure as a civilisation like you do... And we respect our lebanese moslem brothers much more than you think. We are much closer to moslem Lebanese than to the west... What bothers us is when our moslem lebanese brothers start talking about the "islamic umma". We wonder then, what about us? our moslem brothers are reneging us and want to play with syrian moslems and saudi moslems. The umma is a beautiful thing. I respect your loyalties. But our nation, Lebanon is first. What do u think?

Thumb phoenician 23 June 2012, 14:33

@ Rasta

I command you Sir for admitting that Islam say the Christians are polythiest.....(after a push).

Enlighten us why we are polythiests Sir and what about Europe and america? Are you referring to certain section of society and hiw the live a life of drugs and filth? Yes i agree with you on this one but it happens all over the world Sir including muslim countries. And why dont you take the decent and church goer as a good example and tarnish the whole of Christandom because of the tiny few.

Thumb beiruti 23 June 2012, 15:31

What does this clown know about democracy?? He talks the talk, but when it comes to implementing democratic government, this guy is all about getting jobs for his family and to hell with everyone else.
If his concern is with democracy in Syria, what democracy bombs and strafes civilian urban centers with fixed wing and helicopter military aircraft? What democracy does it within its own territory to its own people. What the Assad Regime is doing, and Aoun is supporting, is unprecedented even in barbaric countries, much less Syria. And Aoun is worried that what comes next may not be democratic?
Is Hezbollahstan, the entity that the FPM is facilitating in Lebanon democratic? When Nasrallah runs to Iran and issues unilateral threats against neighboring countries to use the national territory as a launch pad for a war without the consent of the Lebanese people, this is democratic?? I would take lessons on democracry from Putin, before taking them from Aoun.

"no body is perfect but we must ask for forgiveness, and for help from our father yesouh",without him we will fail and we will be in constant pain.
