The army confiscated a pick-up truck loaded with arms with a Lebanese man and six Syrians, who entered the country illegally, aboard in the border region of al-Qaa in the northern Bekaa.

According to a communique issued by the army command, the army seized the pick-up truck on Monday night.

“They tried to pass a check point for the Lebanese General Security,” the statement said.

It added that the weapons include various military equipment, hand grenades and communication devices.

The statement said that the offenders were referred to the competent judicial authorities and an investigation into the incident was opened.

The poorly-demarcated Syrian-Lebanese border has witnessed a number of violations since the revolt against Syrian President Bashar Assad began in mid-March 2011.

Lebanon and Syria share a 330-kilometer border but have yet to agree on official demarcation.

Meanwhile, the army raided at dawn a warehouse used to store drugs in the town of al-Hammoudiyeh, south of Baalbek.

An army communique said that 70 kilograms of different kinds of drugs were seized along with 20 truckloads worth of hashish.

In addition, the army confiscated a quantity of weapons and ammunition.

The statement said that the army is pursuing the suspects.
