Egypt's Supreme Administrative Court on Tuesday postponed a decision on the fate of the Constituent Assembly that is tasked with drafting the country's new constitution.

A ruling had been widely expected on Tuesday but Judge Farid Nazih put off the hearing to October 16 to review more documents, judicial officials said.

Several lawsuits have been filed challenging the constitutionality of the committee and the mechanism for choosing its members.

The 100-strong panel picked in June and headed by senior judge Hossam al-Ghariani has been tasked with drafting a new constitution, after the old charter was suspended following the 2011 uprising which toppled Hosni Mubarak.
