Aoun Marking October 13, 1990: We Will Surmount All Difficulties to Uphold Nation

The Free Patriotic Movement commemorated on Saturday the ouster of its leader MP Michel Aoun on October 13, 1990.

“Today the FPM is working on surmounting the difficulties that occurred in the past to uphold the nation,” Aoun told gatherers during a mass at Deir el-Qalaa in Beit Mery.

He pointed out that his party began “accomplishing its goals.”

The FPM leader didn't tackle any current political affair.

Aoun described the memorial as a “day of pride even if it was laced with pain.”

He told his supporters that he met his promise and returned to Lebanon.

Aoun said that the Taef accord was only signed by Lebanese foes, however, it failed to force anyone to withdraw from Lebanon.

Aoun served as the PM of the legal faction of the two rival governments contending for power in Lebanon from 1988 to October 1990.

He declared the “Liberation War” against the Syrian occupation on March 14 1989. On the October 13, 1990, the Syrian forces invaded Beirut killing hundreds of unarmed soldiers and civilians.

Aoun, then-prime minister, left the Presidential Palace and sought refuge in the French Embassy and he was later allowed to travel to France.

He returned to Lebanon on May 7, 2005, eleven days after the withdrawal of Syrian troops.

In 2006, as head of the FPM, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hizbullah. He visited Syria in 2009.

Hundreds of brave Lebanese Army soldiers and officers were executed 20 years ago because of you, and now you have the audacity to use their honorable death for your dishonarable election. Shame on you...

Ya ex-general, you are nothing but a TRAITOR without any honor!!!

Missing peace 13 October 2012, 20:56

"the traitors are those who claimed to be anti syrian, then joined the syrians on that fateful 13 october 1990"

what has changed? aoun was anti syrian now pro syrian so it makes him a traitor! same thing!
oh! and aoun didn t "liberate" anything, he was just getting revenge against hafez who promised him the presidency then changed his mind...

Thumb thepatriot 14 October 2012, 01:42

FT!! Wake up!! GMA is the biggest TRAITOR in the history of Lebanon!! I used to support him when I thought his cause was pure, untill I understood his cause was only motivated by vengance towards Hafez el Assad who did not grant him the chair!! He sacrificed his regions, his sect, his country, his men, only and only for the sake of his personal ambition! He is the worst kind of speces, he is human nature's worst! This traitor negociated his come back with the syrians and allied with the Hezb only by ambition..... Tfeeeeehhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

October 13 will forever be remembered as the day when the LF traitors chose Syria over their Lebanese compatriots, and brought in Syrian occupation to free Lebanon. Oct 13 should be officially renamed to "LF SHAME DAY."

Default-user-icon MrCrowley (Guest) 13 October 2012, 21:31

I'm sure integrity, honour, loyalty and honesty are all very difficult, but we have faith that, like always, you will surmount them O Der General!

Missing samiam 13 October 2012, 21:46

The ex general tries to portray himself as Lebanese patriot, but since 2005, he has sold out and his words are as meaningful as Grandpa Simpson's musings and ramblings.

He was a patriot---he is now a sellout.

Thumb phoenician 13 October 2012, 22:28

If Aoun was the oooo cleaner than clean and Lebanon first how could he wage a war on LF who defended Lebanon for all Lebanese against the Palastinians who are the cause of war starting in Ein El Remmeneh. Why didnt he start a war against the scum that they are, syrian regime.

Default-user-icon Savio (Guest) 13 October 2012, 23:47

Flame Thrower, I was in Baabda the night before, 20 m away from the man who shot at Michel Aoun and killed one if his body guards. I can tell you that the morning of the 13th of October was one of the most painful moments of the war when we heard about the syrian army going in... Now that I know a lot more about what happened today, I don't understand how people can still back him. He did run away in the M113 to the embassy and he did strike a deal with the syrians to get his family out safely. Now he is saying that the syrian regime, the same that killed our troops and people and is still torturing lebanese in jails, the same that is killing its own people and children with aircrafts, is a democratic regime, you still believe that he has an ounce of brain? Either he is completely insane or he was a syrian agent from the start.

Missing ulpianus 14 October 2012, 00:04

If he only kept his principles and continued working according to those principles. Aoun 1990 is not the same man as Aoun 2012....

Missing maroon40 14 October 2012, 00:13

At least some of the M14 members went from pro Syrian to pro Lebanese , unlike Aoun who went from a selfish-wanna-be president to pro Syrian ...

Missing cedars 14 October 2012, 01:01

So he called the LF thugs and others called them pro-Israeli, those kept eastern Beirut and Baabda united and free of the Syrian hegemony until he came to power and instead of using politics to maintain the united frontier instead he started Harb el Tahreer so that the same family members fight one another in the street. He ended up exiled France and his opponent ended up in jail. Outcome is a failure and break up of the Christians unlike the Sunni and Shiite religions.
Shame on you for getting thousands of brave men killed for NO CAUSE to maintain the political power CHAIR.

Thumb thepatriot 14 October 2012, 01:47

Mwaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha....... m1 is histerical!!!!!!! Micho's patriotism??? Fighting the LF is patriotic?? Abandonning his soldiers is patriotic?? Allying with the Assads is patriotic?? loool!!:)

Is this guy for real? As I recall , he deserted his loyal troops and family, and fled to the safety of the French embassy .Afterwards ,about 80 of his surrendered troops were hand bound and executed point blank range by their Syrian conqueries at Dar Waheesh. And he has the nerve to call this a "day of pride".The day of pride and redemption will come for you when you put a gun to your head and pull the trigger you disgraceful coward.

Default-user-icon Geaorges (X Aounist) (Guest) 14 October 2012, 03:15

You are just a coward and a disgrace.

Of course it is easier for you to forgive to the Assad butchers than to open your hand to your Christian brothers.
Soon you will tell us that it was Geagea who ordered the 13th of October and without his support the syrians could not invade

Nobody has destroyed the Xtians more than you did what the Syrians nor the PLO could do you did it in 2 years waw.

we were so naive to believe in you the one who supposedely reperesented the state and now supports an armed militia at the orders of teheran

Awta min hek ma fi wou ajdab min yala dalom maho just because they don't like the LF, Hariri or Jumblatt are even more stupid
