France Says Syria 'Likely' Involved in al-Hasan Assassination

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said Sunday that Syria was probably involved in the Ashrafiyeh car bombing that killed Intelligence Bureau chief Maj. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan and at least three other people.

"It is likely... Everything indicates that this is an extension of the Syrian tragedy," Fabius told French television, accusing Syrian President Bashar Assad of spreading his country's conflict beyond its borders.

"I wish to express how much we condemn this dreadful attack, how much we are in solidarity with the Lebanese people and government," Fabius said.

He called Assad a "manipulator" who wanted to spread the "contagion to Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon."

The French foreign minister also accused Hizbullah of involvement in the Syrian conflict.

"Hizbullah is in the Lebanese government and we don't see much of their role," he said. "But their presence in the conflict has been apparent in the past few days, such as the drone which overflew Israel."

On October 6, a drone sent by Hizbullah managed to enter Israeli air space before being shot down near the Dimona nuclear reactor.

Fabius said that Hizbullah, which is backed by Iran, wanted to "demonstrate more clearly" their support for Assad's regime, adding: "We cannot accept that."

Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah had boasted that his group sent the sophisticated unmanned drone and said the device was built by the Jewish state's arch-foe Iran.

@mFawaz: Rewind your memory 30yrs and speak how many Lebanese people were assassinated, shelled by the Syrian Grad, sent to Mazze and died on the Electric chairs, Palestinian Sa3eka sent to Lebanon from Syria to massacre towns. Those were made and supported by the Assad family. It took decades for the Arab nations to revolt against the status quo. You better shut-up because you Syrian punk keep messing with our internal affairs.

hassan and bashar must be happy-they have one of their subjects not questioning their leader's assertions--never mind they don't have any proof, but assert that they do.

too bad what they say are lies and denials--ha is being paid by iran to do its bidding in syria and lebanon and if you can't see that, then God, or the devil help you.

@mfawaz , send your one and a half little drone and resist israel with your matchboxes and toys from GI joe. you cannot fool anybody. The weapons of your glorious resistance are nothing but weapons for internal strife not to fight Israel. They will wipe you out and transform dahieh into a parking lot like last time and worse, you will have a sea view right from your home in bent jbeil. Dont get me wrong, im not pro israeli, or prosyrian, but i hate stupidiity like yours. The truth is their is only one authority, under one lebanese army, under one people, and all religions together to fight Israel and Syria. We will have the faith and the weapons we need when we are all together. Not Glorious resistance throwing 5000 katiouchas and killing one bird and damaging 3 rooftops.

nore March 14th always whining crying asking for resignations my god they have killed my brain these two days. Both camps are imcompetent foreign working agent freaks. One has the power but no justice, and one has the justice but no power. So that equals to tyranny for the 1st one ( M8) and uselessness for the second ( M14)

Missing samiam 21 October 2012, 17:54

why is it that the M14 people that are getting killed while the M8 ones don't worry---hell, Aoun had to make up an assassination attempt to get sympathy and that backfired and made him look even more foolish.

Missing peace 21 October 2012, 17:55

lol! supporting a people defending their rights is treason now? lol!
supporting people fighting to liberate syria from the assad is treason now?
i bet your orangina was a traitor when he wanted the same thing: the fall of the assads!

oh! yes some people have the right to rebel but others don t , double M8 standards as usual....

when hezbos brandish the iranian flag what is it? moron....

Missing peace 21 October 2012, 18:14

"it lies with local lebanese traitors that deserve to die."

oh! i guess that applied to elhassan before your friends killed him.

another death threat from FT! after that he ll tell us that he is patriot while wishing death to those opposed to his M8 friends....very patriotic indeed.

you learned well from the bashar way of dealing with opponents it seems, bravo ya chater....

in one post you boast about how you forced Hariri (son) in exile and in the next post you claim Israel killed Hariri (the father). Your dendritic brain cells are beyond redemption. Our glorious friends will one day help us deal with the cronies of your Iranian resistance.

I would love to agree with you F.T. but then I remember that you do not have problem with H.A guy removing a Lebanese flag from a pole and replacing it with hezb flag. You also never complained about Syria's flag and poster of Bashar and Khameni flooding their parades.
Just tell me it is not so and I am with you buddy.

Missing helicopter 21 October 2012, 18:29

While Israel violated our skies 20,000 time, Syria as violated 20,000 Lebanese lives easily and at least 20 of our Political leaders. I choose violating our skies as being the least of two evils. Once we unite to address the Syrian regime killing our leaders and citizens then we can unite and dress the violation of our skies.

Missing peace 21 October 2012, 18:55

no littlejohn, again as an hezbi supporter you read only what suits you.. reread!
and we all say that israel AND syria are both lebanon s enemies when you M8 forget that the assad regime is too! and you support its killings of lebanese and shelling of the country!

Missing peace 21 October 2012, 18:52

yes i guess a hezbo taking the lebanese flag from a pole and replacing it with the hezbi one is patriotism not treachery! you never complained on that one nor copy pasted the picture on all the articles did you like a little M8 robot you are?...see how biased and populist u are? poor thing...

stop trying to defend urself, you are making yourself only more ridiculous....
