The head of the Jamaa Islamiya political bureau Azzam al-Ayyoubi stressed on Thursday on the importance of dialogue between conflicting parties in the country, as “living together in harmony is the only option we have”.

Al-Ayyoubi, and after meeting with a Progressive Socialist Party delegation at the headquarters of the Jamaa in Beirut, said he appreciates the efforts made by the party's MPs in promoting PSP leader Walid Jumblat's initiative.

"We are positive that the PSP's efforts along with ours will bring together the opposing views in Lebanon's politics,” al-Ayyoubi added, explaining that both parties agreed to continue these meetings until they come up with practical ways end the current crisis.

“We want to resume dialogues between various political parties,” PSP Minister Alaeddine Terro said, explaining that they are trying to minimize differences, overcome obstacles and respond to President Michel Suleiman's calls for dialogue.

The assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Branch chief Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan on October 19 deepened the gap between the March 14 and 8 alliances.

The opposition boycotted political activity with its foes after it blamed Prime Minister Najib Miqati's government for covering up the crime, calling on it to step down, and said it would not sit at the same dialogue table with Hizbullah.

The PSP delegation has so far met with Suleiman, Speaker Nabih Berri, Miqati, Hizbullah deputy leader Sheikh Naim Qassem and Free Patriotic Movement chief MP Michel Aoun, former President Amin Gemayel and the head of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea to suggest a return to dialogue and an end to involvement in the Syrian crisis.
