Miqati’s Circles: Leaked Info Aimed at Luring him into Confrontations

The circles of Premier-designate Najib Miqati have stressed that reports about a final deal on the cabinet lineup were aimed at luring him into taking certain stances.

The circles told several Beirut dailies that Miqati will not be influenced by the reports and will continue his consultations with the involved parties to reach the desired results.

“The leaked information whether positive or negative is not accurate and is aimed at either luring the premier-designate into confrontations … or disturbing the formation of the cabinet,” the circles said.

They added that some issues “need more discussion.”

The prime-minister designate has also allegedly expressed frustration at the leak of the name of Internal Security Forces retired Maj. Gen. Marwan Charbel to the media.

Al-Akhbar daily quoted him as saying that “those who seriously want to form the cabinet do not burn the man’s name this way.”

Consensus has been reached on nominating Charbel for the interior ministry post.
