Killer of Myriam al-Ashqar Sentenced to Death

Syrian national Fathi Jaber al-Salatin, who was accused of killing Myriam al-Ashqar in November 2011, was sentenced to death on Friday.
Al-Ashqar, 28, was found dead and soaked in blood in the outskirts of Sahel Alma on November 22, 2011.
Al-Salatin, who hails from the Syrian province of Hama, was the janitor of the Our Lady of the Annunciation monastery in Baqloush and well-known in the town, where al-Ashqar used to pray several times every other week.
The janitor killed her after she managed to prevent him from raping her.
When al-Ashqar did not return home that day, the search started in Sahel Alma’s forestlands, with the participation of army troops, security forces and the town’s residents.
Parts of her clothes were found blood-soaked and buried in the ground near the janitor’s room, prompting the search crews to intensify their efforts before discovering al-Ashqar's body wrapped in a white bag in a hard-to-reach place.

This is incredible. I posted here expressing my sympathy for Myriam and for the hanging of her odious killer in public. What does Naharnet do to my utter surprise, DELETE my post. I never engaged one single derogatory word, just the genuine feeling of a citizen who wishes the best for the people, yet Naharnet deleted it. Here we are, with one post after the other, totally unrelated to the other, with words not fit for public consumption, yet these posts remain, but a decent concerned post from a citizen is deleted. What is happening?! Good heavens, this is a total shame!!

Thanks bro FT for your support. Who has not been truly hurt and infuriated by Myriam's murder? Which parent is not haunted by such thoughts, that some filthy killer would come one day and cause such a thing to a loved one? So many things are wrong in our country. Foreigners entering our country almost unchecked and roaming the country at will, motorists driving with the aim to kill others, from truckers to car owners, people are worried, and the state's paralysis makes it even worse to say the least. I would dearly wish to see this murderer hang in public view, this is justice.

Les insultes sont et doivent etre censurees de meme que l'appel a la mort sauvage (public hanging) aren't things that should be tolerated even in archaic countries such as Lebanon. I sometimes get censured too, and I admit I cross the red line for the heck of it. It's no big deal though!

Benzona, your message was clear and well understood. But tell me what is savage about a public execution? Should not such a brutal killer be treated at least in the same way he killed Myriam, an angel that never hurt anyone? Did he give her a moment's sympathy? If Naharnet is so sensible about such an issue, then let it make it clear in this policy publication. Naharnet is failing to keep its forum clean of foul language and cretins whose only purpose is to insult and nothing more. Some even use multiple aliases just to attain that purpose. Sorry, I once had a better sentiment of this place.

If Naharnet is subjugated to an electronic reporting system, then it is high time for it to overhaul it. We are walking past tons of derogatory debris, and nothing happens, but when a sensible post addresses an issue, some it seems may press to report it, so if this is the system, then let Naharnet do something about it, if it doesn't want at the end of the day to end up with a bland forum where only the personal bickerers, character assassins and derogates can rule over the high ground.

In principle I am against the death penalty. But in the case of a struggling third world country such as ourselves, and for cases like that, I am reconsidering. I dont know if we can as a society afford to educate those from the bottomest layers of social ethics (the killers), or to just kill them.
