Army chief Gen. Jean Qahwaji stressed on Saturday that the military will safeguard civil peace in Lebanon through preserving the national principles regardless of political crises in the country.

“The army will not tolerate any security breach or meddling with the country's stability,” Qahwaji said during a visit to the Army Commando Regiment in Roumieh prison.

He hailed the army's efforts to safeguard security without any discrimination.

Qahwaji pointed out that the army played a main role in ending the recent clashes in the northern city of Tripoli between the rival neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen.

The majority of Tripoli's residents are Sunni Muslim and support the anti-Assad revolt in Syria. A minority of Alawites, an offshoot of Shiite Islam, back the Syrian regime and fear potential sectarian violence should President Bashar Assad fall.

Lebanon is deeply divided over Syria. Hizbullah, its allies and supporters bitterly oppose the revolt, while the March 14 opposition backs it.

Either this article is incomplete, either Ka7waji doesn't get the who picture. It isn't only about Syria, it's about Iran and more importantly the illegal 40k rockets on our soil and those behind this daily threat. Syria is only a supplier, the dealer remains intra muros.
