Public school teachers are set to go on strike on Wednesday in protest against the political deadlock in Lebanon, which they fear will serve to increase economic and social problems, reported the pan-Arab daily al-Hayat on Tuesday.

Transportation unions have meanwhile decided to go on general strike on Thursday “in order to achieve the drivers’ legitimate demands”.

The head of the drivers union, Abdul Amir Najdeh said after an extraordinary meeting for the transportation unions on Monday: “The situation has become unbearable and Thursday’s actions will mark the beginning of a number of other actions that will be determined later.”

He added however that the union will maintain contacts with the concerned officials in order to meet their demands.

The gatherers stated that the soaring gas prices have begun to take their toll on them, apologizing for employees who will have difficulties reaching their work because of the strike.

The strike is set to take place between 6:00 am and 12:00 pm on Thursday where “roads will be blocked throughout Lebanon in rejection of the various governments’ policies.”

Some drivers said that they intend to burn tires to achieve this goal, adding that employees won’t be able to reach their jobs and “travelers won’t be able to head to the airport.”
