Jumblat Warns Syria's Druze against Joining 'Regime's So-Called Popular Army'

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat renewed on Monday his call on Druze living in Syria to join the revolt against the regime of President Bashar Assad, deeming the recent formation of the “so-called popular army” as the first step towards civil war in the country.

He therefore warned the Druze community “against taking any reckless step such as joining the popular army.”

“This measure will jeopardize your political presence in all Syrian regions,” he warned in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website.

Jumblat called on the Druze to “assert their national and historic heritage in confronting oppression and protect Syria's unity along with the rest of the free men.”

“The so-called popular army is aimed at achieving the regime's goals and it officially paves the way for civil war in Syria,” he remarked.

a sectarian person is some one that has a religious party and deny others their rights. Not Jumblat. titshabah la sermeyto bil awal ya wati. you are supporting a criminal of a president that destroyed 7,000 years of heritage and killed more than 60,000 of his own people. w ilak 3ayn ya mret te7ki.. i wish you were in syria now you maggot. it really pisses me off when i know that are really people like your kind.. tfoooo 3leik

it takes one to know one - your sectarian filth comes handy with people like or your leader who support anything that is sectarian and lies about it.

Join the "Terrorists" or the "Regime" and the "Terrorists" will rob and kill you too before it's over. Bad advice. Jumblatt should have taken his own advice and kept his mouth out of what is a no win situation.

How can anyone fault Junblatt for reaching out to Syrian Druze and warn them of the dangers of joining the Popular Army"? Why is this a controversial statement? He's just trying to avoid the Druze of Syria being sucked into the conflict - what is wrong with that?

Mentally unstable but can think straight from time to time. Good for the Druze community!
