State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr demanded on Tuesday indicting ex-Information Minister Michel Samaha and Syrian security official Ali Mamlouk with plotting to carry out terrorist acts in Lebanon.

Saqr, according to state-run National News Agency, recommended First Military Investigation Judge Riyad Abu Ghida to indict Samaha and Mamlouk with plotting to assassinate Lebanese leaders and of transporting explosives from Syria into Lebanon to carry out attacks in an attempt to provoke sectarian strife at the behest of the Syrian regime.

Samaha was detained in August.

Saqr also demanded Abu Ghida to issue a search warrant to identify a Syrian colonel known only by his first name Adnan.

Last week, Abu Ghida issued arrest warrants against the two Syrian officials over their links to the Samaha case.

Away from any politicization, anyone who is found to have plotted to destabilize Lebanon should be brought to justice and given all the due diligence rights to prove innocence. This is the way things happen in advanced countries and I see no reason why in Lebanon this should be otherwise. Samaha and Mamluk were accused and should be tried fairly and justly. If they were found guilty beyond any reasonable doubt, they should be incarcerated and punished. This should be the case for all, not only for these two people. But if this is the case, why to this date only few in Lebanon are prosecuted? This raises a question of fairness and equity.
