An armed gunman robbed on Saturday Byblos Bank's Jnah branch in Beirut, reported the National News Agency.
It said that the gunman, dressed in from head to toe in black, entered the bank, robbed it at gunpoint, and fled to an unknown location.
Voice of Lebanon radio (100.5) said he fled on motorbike to the Bir Hassan neighborhood in Beirut.
In December, the Military Tribunal charged 12 people with robbing a number of banks and the attempted murder of a soldier and two judges.
Al-Joumhouria newspaper reported in September that the bank robbery network had a list to target several politicians and officials.
Before anyone starts with the usual diatribe of accusing one side or the other, it may well worth the government's attention that there's a reason why such crimes are now on the rise. Although I very much detest such things, one still has to look at the prismatic glass to understand why such things are getting more common nowadays. Our politicians have bastardized this country so much so, that there's very little left in opportunities for the Lebanese. Yes, the people indeed must share a big part of the responsibility too, they allowed such politicians to take charge of the nation's fate, but all the same, crime is on the rise, people are desperate so let's not go around telling a father that his children need to sleep another night without food when our politicians' family are fattening themselves with caviar.
FT bro, I am afraid I don't have good news on the refugee situation. Official figures want to convince us that we have a little less than half a million refugees, the figure is carefully calculated because no one wants to top over the same figure of the Palestinian presence in Lebanon. The hard fact is that we now have almost 800,000 Syrian refugees inside our territory, true most of which are normal everyday citizens wanting to flee the violence in their country. Again, fact is that amongst them are a high number of men camouflaged in civilian attire, their presence however is entirely different, they are here to stir trouble. As an LFer constantly watching the situation, I can assure you that the situation in Lebanon is now truly precarious, this is being very moderate. My reason why we must not delve into the HA weapons for the time being, not yet anyway.
Furthermore FT, we have had a string of Palestinians who entered the country from Syria, unlike the Syrian nationals who have been given shelter here and there, the Palestinians have gone to their camps in Lebanon. Nahr El Bared for one is now known to shelter a large group of Islamist radicals, as do Shatilla and Ein El Helweh. They did not let in only innocent refugees but also troublemakers, radicals of the extreme kind. A dirty game is being played out now, even the KSA is now suspected of wanting to speed the collapse of our country by being allegedly suspected of withdrawing its deposits from Lebanese banks. A dirty hand is playing a foul game all over again. Make Lebanon collapse, and pick up the pieces thereafter, anyhow, anyways.
I've given you a thumbs up for this one, because in this rare occasion, we do share the same fears.
Aren't you lucky Karim, I've just given you another thumbs up (3ish bi hal ne3meh). Rest assured that many LFers are as cautious as I am, I just happen to be more vocal with my viewpoints. You know what is said about the enemy of my enemy being my friend? Food for thought bro.
As if the Lebanese people don't steal ,it is easy to blame a Syrian or a Palestinian ,typical Lebanese people always blaming others..
Not really habibei when you have more than 500k syrian refugees and more than 500 k palestinian all of them incontrolable and unorganized you ll have a rize in the crimes it is not only typical levanese it is basics !
It's always easier to accuse others, we all know hezb Iran protects criminal and drug dealers
I'm afraid this is what happens when a poor country goes through the sort of inflation we've gone through. I expect the crime rate to keep increasing. People are going to put food on the table, one way or another
I saw a funny thing on the internet that goes, "When the poor have no more anything to eat, they'll start eating the rich". May this happen here since our rich politicians have never bothered for the poor and the masses. But then again, why do the masses keep following those who love to butcher them?
Pity the people who can only unite by having a common enemy or the same person to bully.
you should amend your statement to say compliments of Syria/Hizb Iran and Iran, because frankly the robbery occurred in a Shia area and the guys fled to an area dominated by Amal and HI.
Maybe if the government concentrated on law and order by preventing these robberies (more officers, cameras on streets, etc), they may get a head start--but reacting is never good.
