Three shells launched from the Syrian side of the border on Friday landed in the northern Akkar town of al-Noura, affecting power lines in the region, the state-run National News Agency reported.

"The shells damaged the high-voltage power line and wounded a number of animals,” the NNA detailed.

MTV had said earlier that rockets fired from Syria hit the outskirts of al-Noura town and nearby villages.

"Syrian shells also landed in the villages of Hikr Jenine and Dibabiyye”.

Since the eruption of the Syrian war in 2011, Lebanese town in the North and the Bekaa regions have repeatedly witnessed shelling and gunfire coming from Syria, wounding many people and causing major material damage.

Earlier in March, the NNA said “Syrian warplanes bombarded the outskirts of the towns of Khirbet Younin and Wadi al-Khayl in Arsal's barren mountains”.

However, the Syrian foreign ministry stressed that this report it “totally false”: “As we deny it entirety, we underline respect of Lebanese sovereignty and our keenness on the security and stability of Lebanon”.
