A taxi driver was kidnapped at dawn Thursday in Dora, the latest in the string of abductions in return for ransom, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA said Joseph Issa al-Khawli disappeared on Wednesday night. But alleged abductors contacted his son asking for a 50,000-dollar-ransom.

The head of the General Syndicate of Lebanon's Taxi Drivers, Marwan Fayyad, told Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) that al-Khawli hails from the eastern town of Riyaq and resides in Ghazir, north of Beirut.

He said the abductee called his wife on Wednesday night to inform her that he was driving a man to Batroun after taking Syrians to the area of Ajaltoun.

But he failed to return home.

Later, an unknown man contacted his wife asking for the 50,000 dollar ransom to release him, Fayyad told VDL.

its also absent in Bahrain for example.

so you support the government's actions there?

all these security incidents were also non existent in 1990 - 2005 lebanon. do you think the syrian army should return to occupy lebanon?

im sure you're familiar with the expression "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety"

maybe you should run that through your little head first

don't go there--they won't know what to do with that quote. It is too elemental for them.

I would love to see you for once criticize the corner stone of instability in Lebanon ans that is one sect having its own private army, you know, there is this thing called " Root Cause Analysis". do it, yo will find the root cause is paranoia, people dont want a sect outside the state.

Isn't it time we, Lebanese, conduct our own social revolution and decide to launch a new era of peace, stability and development?
Aren't you guys fed up to discover every morning that the situation is worse than it was the day before?
Wouldn't the country be better without portraits of long-term leaders, useless religious figures, criminals and extremists?
The English did it a long time ago. The French did it in 1789, every European country followed. I guess the Egyptian, Libyan, Yemeni and Syrian have much more guts than us...

That is one good thing this government can brag--less electricity, less security, fewer tourists, but kidnappings are up.

Should put that on t-shirts and pass them on their supporters.
