Zawahiri Urges Syria Rebels to Seek Islamic State

Al-Qaida chief Ayman al-Zawahiri has urged rebels to fight to establish an Islamic state in Syria, in an online audio message Sunday in which he also warned France against its military intervention in Mali.

"Let your fight be in the name of Allah and with the aim of establishing Allah's sharia (law) as the ruling system," he said in his first message posted on the Internet since last November.

"Do all that you can so that your holy war yields a jihadist Islamic state," said Zawahiri, adding that such a state would help to re-establish the Islamic "caliphate" system of rule.

"The enemy has begun to reel and collapse," he said, referring to forces loyal to Assad.

Islamist rebel groups such as the al-Nusra Front, which has links to al-Qaida, have eschewed the main opposition National Coalition, making it clear their goal is the creation of an Islamic state to replace President Bashar Assad's regime.

Zawahiri's message will not sit easily with Western powers, who have expressed fears of extremist Islamism playing a growing role in the Syrian conflict and are reluctant to arm the rebels on the ground.

Assad's regime has long dismissed the rebels as "terror" groups backed by Western powers and driven by al-Qaida-style ideologies.

The United Nations says more than 70,000 people have been killed in Syria's two-year conflict, which broke out after the army unleashed a brutal crackdown against dissent, turning the uprising into a bloody insurgency.

Zawahiri in his message also warned France over its military involvement against Islamists in Mali, saying it will be defeated in the same way, according to him, the Americans were defeated in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"I warn France that it will face, God willing, the same faced by America in Iraq and Afghanistan," said the man who took over the leadership of al-Qaida after Osama bin Laden was killed by a U.S. commando in May 2011.

"I call upon our Muslim nation in Mali to hold and be patient, and hopefully, effect a new defeat to the global crusade," he added.

France sent troops to Mali in January to block an advance on Bamako from the north by Islamist fighters. But it is preparing to hand over to a U.N.-mandated African force of 6,300 in the coming weeks.

Today’s events in North of Africa, Egypt, Tunisia and certain other countries have another sense for the Iranian nation. They have special meaning. This is the same as ‘Islamic awakening,’ which is the result of the victory of the big revolution of the Iranian nation - Ayatollah Ali Khamenei - February 2011

The Arab Spring is heralding the emergence of an Islamic Middle East - Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Salehi - September 2011

Establish an Islamic state in Syria - Ayman al-Zawahiri - April 2013 (what took you so long to come to the same conclusion my fellow jihad brother from another mother - Shiite soon to be martyred while fighting in Syria because I supposedly live in Syria but will be burred in Lebanon for some odd reason no one can explain or understand but hey the Sayyed said it so logic, reason and common sense out the window now you are not welcomed in the realm of the Sayyed!)

This is a sick person who lives in the dreams of the ancient past. Unfortunately many Islamists believe in his ideology, his former country will shortly become another Saudi Arabia. I have just spoke with one of my relatives in Athens who was in Vienna, he said in some neighbourhoods you would think you are in Saudi Arabia. So it comes it is not the fault of this sick person but the fault of Christian Europe

yes, filth attracts filth. Sometimes filth invites filth. Bashar is inviting al-maliki's men to fight for Shiism in Syria. It's all well planned by the regime, he wants to stir chaos before collapsing.

"Assad's regime has long dismissed the rebels as "terror" groups backed by Western powers and driven by al-Qaida-style ideologies."

Well, Zawahiri just proved Assad's point.

This basically enforces and confirms everything that president Bashar has been saying.

I don't what you believe in dude ,this has nothing to do with Jesus or the prophet Mohammed ,what we are talking about here is this filth Ayman al-Zawahiri .

Thumb tonymartin 08 April 2013, 10:28

Are you stupid? Al Qaeda would be there no matter what, just as they did in Libya and Egypt. You don't understand what is happening in the middle east

Thumb tonymartin 08 April 2013, 10:30

The Al Qaeda and Al Nusra wants to establish Islamic Khalifah throughout the middle east, it is going to happen soon enough. Christians have to be ready for this, buy weapons while you still can.

Ya Yahya, I dont have any right neither do you to tell any christian anywhere in the world what to or NOT to believe in. Every human being will have to face god no matter what their religion is. But while you are still here on earth YOU DON'T HAVE the Right. As for Ayman Al Zawahiri, I hope this doesn't come true and I am a muslim saying this. Because he too is like Osama bin laden. Extreme to the Max. I love the Koran as I do the bible but I have to be a little moderate in the way I conduct myself. If my hindu neighbour wishes to worship a cow I wont be going in his grave hole and be judged for his actions. Nor can I tell a Buddhist to stop believing in budda. I just dont have that RIGHT. simple as that.

music66 where do you get your logic from? Certainly not from islam nor the noble quran that ENCOURAGES us to warn people from hellfire, we are encouraged to notify the christians and other mushrikin of their false belief. If you love the quran, then start following it instead of chosing to impress christians who hate your religion as if their approval of you will help you in any way.

Thumb music66 08 April 2013, 13:26

The whole world hates us Muslims all together whether they are extremist or moderate because of the attitude of people like Osama bin laden and Ayman AL Zawahiri. They put us all in the same boat and this has caused us a very ugly name for our religion.

So Yayha I say NO to Islamism in Syria, Syria has Muslims and Christians and both should respect each other Just like Lebanon which too has Christians and Muslims. and you too should love and tolerate all human beings and respect the fact that not all people want the same things in life. Each to their own.

Missing stayfit 08 April 2013, 15:16

You say no to islamism in syria? So are you saying it was wrong of the prophet mohammad (saw) to implement sharia even though minorities lived among the muslims? Are you saying Allah swt is wrong when he says that his law is the correct law?
Do you know that your words constitute kufur according to the quran? Yes i know, you will say i am extreme and takfiri and whatever but at the end of the day, what you are really saying/thinking is that Allah swt and Prophet Mohammad saw is that since what you are against is islam period. You only support islam as long as it it is not implemented completly. Secondly who told you that we should love and tolerate all human beings? Not all human beings are to be loved, especially not those who insist on comitting shirk. Where does Allah swt tell us to love those who asign partners to him. They are impure according to Allah swt!!

Thumb music66 09 April 2013, 12:02

From what you posted sounds like you have never interacted with other people of different walks of life. HOW sad for you that you have cocooned yourself in your own little shell with out seeing that god made everybody. Don't you love humanity , we are all humans, some good some bad but bottom line is we are one human race. Same color blood. same bone structure , same nervous system. GET the drift. I say if you want a WHOLE world just for perfect Muslims like yourself hardliners etc.. MARS is vacant you can migrate there. You dont have to live with the rest of humanity on earth. God made the earth for everybody get that through your head. have a nice day.

Thumb music66 09 April 2013, 12:02

Correct you sound extreme, you are absolutely right. and only god can judge me not you or anybody else. Understand that, And since your not going in my grave and wont be judged on my account .. MIND YOUR OWN business. If god sends me to hell that is his doing and NOT YOURS> if he sends me to Heaven that is HIS doing and NOT YOURS. understand

Thumb music66 09 April 2013, 12:18

I am a muslim not perfect, NO one is perfect excepts all the prophets that have come before us. All of them. And yes we should tolerate all human beings in a good way, If people do wrong in life I cannot judge them. I cant judge anybody. Stop and think for a minute. I am not committing anything wrong by saying you should learn to love everybody.

I tell you a story. There was a muslim Turkish named Mehmet Ali Agca, the man who tried to kill Pope John Paul in 1981, he was due to be released from prison in Turkey> After that Three days after the shooting, he forgives Agca during a live radio broadcast from his hospital bed. How big is that .

Missing stayfit 08 April 2013, 15:17

Also reflect on this ayah from the noble quran, if you still are against "islamism" ie real islam, not alqaida-cia style, but that of the quran then you are not a muslim according to Allah swt:

ومن لم يحكم بما انزل الله فاؤلئك هم الكافرون 5:44

Saying to islamism if by islamism you mean that muslims unite and the law is replaced by that of Gods law, then you are saying no to islam.

Thumb music66 08 April 2013, 14:04

One more thing, We are all human beings, I may not agree with some things that people do but that doesn't mean I have to be nasty and be a bully. Self control is sometimes a good thing.
There is a saying that MONEY has no religion and this is so true. Someone can offer another a high amount of money to do his dirty work for him and greed takes over. When we as human beings of all walks of life and all religions truly put self greed aside as well as personal agendas the world may see a wonderful peace for all HUMANITY. The truth is there is good and bad in all walks of life and religions too i only wish there was more good on earth.

Missing stayfit 08 April 2013, 15:19

There is a diffirence between being a bully and repeating what the quran says. You do believe in the quran dont you? Is it bullying to manifest what Allah swt says?

Your secular values are the opposite of what islam says so be whatever you want, but dont call it islam when it goes against what the quran says.

Thumb music66 09 April 2013, 11:49

Don't feel sorry for me , feel sorry for yourself and other extremists who think they can tell others what and how to live. I have no right to tell anyone how to live , Just do the best not to cause havoc in the world and live as peacefully as can be. Look around you Muslims all over the world are armed to their teeth. Isn't it sad rather than preaching good will. we are ONE killing each other, and everything that is opposed to the agendas that be.

Thumb music66 09 April 2013, 11:49

I love all the people that are good in my life. I know Muslims who are so deviate, steel, lie and cheat their way to get that mighty Dollar. And will swear black and blue they are not doing any wrong. Look at Syria Muslims are fighting Muslims. regardless of their Muslim/ sects You think Israel isn't laughing at us Muslims around the world. Ha.. think again they are happy we are at each others throats. If I should live life according to sharia in MY HOME, that is my business, but I have NO business imposing it on those who are NOT of the muslim faith or anybody else for that matter even those according to your way of thinking that are not MUSLIM enough for your liking. Again I state I wish peace for humanity of all walks of life. I only wish there were more good people than bad. And I HATE weapons of any sort they only bring destruction.

Missing stayfit 08 April 2013, 15:23

Yahya, you are talking to those who are blinded by their hate. They will call you extremist when in reality they are the extremists of secularism and kufr.

If you think you can preach islam to lebanese, whether they are non-muslim or "muslim" you are misstaken because of them are brainwashed to the maximum to hate islam, especially the muslims ones, its just that they have turned the opinions of rafic hariri and other such secularist fools in to their "islam" so they wont recognize their own hate for the religion they claim to believe in because they dont care about what Allah swt said, they care about what is considered politically correct as to not get on the bad side of the maronites whos hate for muslims and islam is as old as them.
