The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia affirmed on Monday its "keenness on continuing the development of its distinguished relations with Lebanon”, expressing its hope that the assignment of PM-designate Tammam Salam to form the cabinet will contribute to the “stability and prosperity of the country”.

"We are keen on continuing the improvement of the special relations with have with Lebanon,” the Saudi cabinet said in a released statement.

The presidency announced Salam's election on Saturday after a meeting was held between President Michel Suleiman and Speaker Nabih Berri, during which the latter was informed by the president of the parliamentary consultations' details.

The Beirut MP assumed the position of prime minister on the second day of the binding parliamentary consultations after garnering a total of 124 votes by lawmakers.

Salam had paid a visit to Saudi Arabia, shortly before he was nominated for premiership, where he met with former Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Saudi Intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan.

Lebanon will enjoy stability and prosperity when you stop exporting Al Qaeda and terrorism to it and when you stop trying to Wahabi-ize Lebanon and turn us into a khaliji satellite state. We will resist any breach of our freedom, democracy, and sovereignty by any means necessary.

No to Saudi-Arabism! No to Wahabism! No to terrorism! Yes to freedom! Yes to democracy! Yes to sovereignty!
