McCartney Named Britain's Richest Musician for 25th Year

Former Beatle Paul McCartney has been named Britain's wealthiest musician for a 25th year running in an annual "rich list" compiled by The Sunday Times newspaper.

McCartney shares an estimated £680 million ($1.0 billion, 798-million-euro) fortune with his third wife Nancy Shevell, an American heiress who is worth around £150 million alone, according to the broadsheet.

McCartney, 70, has topped The Sunday Times' list of richest British and Irish musicians every year since it was created in 1989, when he was worth an estimated £80 million.

The singer -- who has written or co-written more than 50 top 10 hits across his years with The Beatles, Wings and in his solo career -- kicks off a new world tour in Warsaw on June 22.

Andrew Lloyd-Webber, composer of many of the world's best-loved musicals including "The Phantom of the Opera", "Evita" and "Jesus Christ Superstar", was ranked second-richest in 2013 with £620 million, ahead of Irish rockers U2 with £520 million.

Elton John follows with £240 million, while former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is helped to a £200 million joint fortune by her footballer husband David.

Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger also has an estimated £200 million, according to the list.

Soul diva Adele, who won an Oscar for her Bond theme "Skyfall", is named as the richest musician under the age of 30. She has a fortune of £30 million.

The Sunday Times will publish its full rich list on April 21.
