An Iraqi man escaped an attempted kidnapping in the north Metn town of Dayshounieh, the state-run National News Agency reported Wednesday.

NNA said three gunmen intercepted Hussein al-Hussein, 47, and forced him into their dark blue Mercedes on Tuesday night.

But al-Hussein was able to escape, the agency added, without giving further details.

Lebanon has been witnessing a spree of kidnappings targeting wealthy businessmen or investors. But lately, several people from the working class were targeted.

NNA reported on Tuesday that the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Branch arrested the suspected kidnapper of taxi driver Joseph al-Khawli.

NNA identified the suspect as L. Jaafar.

It said the man kidnapped al-Khawli on April 3 and had plotted for another abduction.
