The director of the office of Syrian refugees' affairs in Lebanon Khaled al-Mustafa, aka Abu Raed, informed security forces that he escaped an assassination attempt while he was in his office in the northern city of Tripoli, MTV reported on Wednesday.

“Al-Mustafa survived a gunshot fired from a silenced pistol,” it elaborated.

“The bullet that was shot from outside the office missed the target, hitting the wall instead.”

OTV noted: “Abu Raed was in the headquarters of the Syrian opposition in (Tripoli's area of) Abi Samra during the shooting.”

Security forces arrived at the location of the incident to inspect where the bullet has landed.

Since the eruption of the Syrian crisis, thousands of refugees have left their war-torn country to neighboring Lebanon.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees revealed in April that the number of refugees who fled Syria to Lebanon has soared to more than 400,000.
