A Phalange Party delegation continued on Friday a tour on Lebanese rival groups to discuss the initiative proposed by the party to introduce a constitutional amendment, which calls for neutrality and dissociate the country from the conflicts surrounding it.

“We are trying to attain the largest support for our proposal,” Phalange Party MP Sami Gemayel said after talks with the head of al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc, Fouad Saniora.

He described the meeting as “positive,” saying: “We will take into consideration the comments before introducing the final draft.”

Gemayel considered the initiative as an “important stage in the mission of the March 14 alliance to guarantee Lebanon's sovereignty and independence.”

The delegation later headed to Ain el-Tineh to discuss the initiative with Speaker Nabih Berri, who is also the head of the AMAL movement.

The delegation is comprised of lawmakers Nadim Gemayel, Elie Marouni, Fadi el-Haber and Youssef Saadeh.

MP Nadim Gemayel said after the delegation met with Berri that it “will visit all the parliamentary blocs including Hizbullah and (Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat's) National Struggle Front bloc.”

He pointed out that the speaker supports the initiative and to dissociate the country from the regional and international developments.

The Free Patriotic Movement welcomed on Thursday the initiative, saying that it was “worth discussing.”

The Phalange Party announced on Tuesday a proposal to amend the preamble of the constitution to stipulate Lebanon's neutrality towards regional conflicts.

“The Baabda Declaration must be adopted in the constitution,” he said.

The Baabda Declaration was unanimously adopted during a national dialogue session in June 2012. It calls for Lebanon to disassociate itself from regional crises, most notably the one in Syria.

the 14th of march christians with the centrists should unite and form one big party that can also rally the disillusioned fpmrs and some marada followers to address much more important and pressing issues.

after the resounding failure of baabda negotiations and the flagrant involvement of hezballah in syria along side the regime , it became imperative for the majority of the lebanese from all sects to disassociate themselves clearly and steer away from the repercussions of all unilateral hezballah’s or anyone else's actions involved in the syrian military conflict or any other conflict for that matter.

This newly formed majority should quickly find the means and the necessary political and military help local and foreign to protect the declared neutral areas in lebanon from retaliation at the hands of hezballah and what's left of the syrian regime or from the israelis wrath following a new hezballah blunder similar to the one that caused the 2006 disaster.

This is the Swiss model and it works. Unfortunately, the Lebanese version will include assassinations of the riteous.
