President Michel Suleiman stressed during the new cabinet’s first session that the government was formed with a Lebanese agenda and without foreign meddling, Information Minister Walid al-Daouq quoted him as saying.

Suleiman added: “Syria didn’t interfere and this is what we ask for.”

The president congratulated Prime Minister Najib Miqati for his efforts to form the cabinet despite the various pressure he faced, Daouq said in a statement.

“Since the signing of the Taef Accord and to this day, we had been accustomed to Syria intervening in the government formation process, but it didn’t this time, proving that we are capable of resolving our affairs among ourselves,” Suleiman noted.

“Sacrifices have to be made to save the country through adhering to democracy in various elections … and respecting the army as it remains the main national institution responsible for fortifying the nation,” he continued.

The president also commended Speaker Nabih Berri’s sacrificing of a Shiite minister in the cabinet lineup in favor of a Sunni one.

Let's review some of the visitors of the city of Damascus on the eve of the formal announcement of the new government:

- Mr. Walid Jumblatt
- Mr. Taha Miqati (brother of the prime minister).

I guess both of them must have had severe cravings for baraze2 (sesame cookies) since, in accordance with presidential statements, they weren't there to receive instructions.

To whomever has decided that the people of Lebanon are too stupid to make up their own minds:
Give us credit and do not add insult to injury.

Up to now Gebran Sons have addressed President Suleiman with respect. Today we must say this respect has evaporated. At the same time the region is moving towards freedom and democracy, Suleiman/Miqati’s cabinet is throwing Lebanon’s future to the Basij and the two worst tyrants in the region. Pretty soon freedom, democracy and reform in Lebanon will look like in Syria and Iran. Suleiman may effectively be the worst president Lebanon ever had as he willingly allowed Lebanon to be transformed into Hizbollahstan, a prison to the mind and spirit.
