GCC Urges Nationals to Avoid Going to Lebanon as Arab League Condemns Hizbullah Activities in Syria

The countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council urged their citizens on Wednesday to avoid traveling to Lebanon or staying in the country as “a safety precaution.”

“All six member states of the GCC call on their citizens not to travel to Lebanon and urge their nationals who are already in the country to leave it,” Council chief Abdullatif al-Zayani stressed during a press conference.

He elaborated: “We took this decision taking into consideration the current unstable situation in Lebanon, which is a threat to the nationals of GCC countries.”

Meanwhile, the Arab League on Wednesday condemned Hizbullah's involvement in the Syrian war.

Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi announced after an extraordinary meeting of Arab foreign ministers that the resolution issued after the talks condemns “any intervention in Syria, especially by Hizbullah.”

"There were several points of views regarding Hizbullah and we decided to condemn any foreign interference in the Syrian conflict, especially Hizbullah's involvement,” al-Arabi told reporters.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Amr revealed that no party had reservations on the decision concerning Syria “except for Lebanon that distanced itself from this matter.”

The military support of Hizbullah has helped Syrian regime forces gain the upper hand in the battle for control of Qusayr, where an army assault began last month, amid a Lebanese, regional and international outcry.

Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah had previously justified the group's involvement in Syria by saying they were defending Lebanese-inhabited border villages inside Syria and Shiite holy sites.

But during a May 25 speech marking the 13th anniversary of Israel's military withdrawal from Lebanon, Nasrallah said the Takfiris are the “most prevailing group in the Syrian opposition,” warning against a defeat against them in the ongoing war in Syria.

He said: “If Syria falls in the hands of the Takfiris and the United States, the resistance will become under a siege and Israel will enter Lebanon. If Syria falls, the Palestinian cause will be lost.”

Logique. The assassin regime is getting the upper hand against the genuine resistance in Syria. Their collaborators are living among us inlebanon.... The country is unsafe..... More than ever.

You live in denial, the country is unsafe BUT some areas are dangerous: Tripoli, saïda (Abra), Hermel, Bekaa, etc... And more to come. The FSA will bring the fight to Lebanon in response to hez Ebola's interference on their soil.

Not that I support H.A. getting involved in Syrian (they may do so as Persian dogs, I mean under the color of the Iranian army), does the so called Arab League also condemn the filthy Al-Qaeda or Muslim Bros types interfering in the Syrian mess?

Assad was the one helping Al-Qaeda for years, by letting them get into Iraq from Syria from 03 to 2011.

The GCC spokesman clarified the earlier remarks, saying, "We have nothing in principle against outside involvement in Syria's internal affairs; what we reject, however, is when interests opposed to ours are successful."

I can hear them cry all the way to Mars! I shall soon arrive on Jupiter and will keep you up to date should I hear them cry even more. It's a good thing that they wear long and baggy robes to soak all their tears. My condolences, ya ahl al sanni.

The weakness of the GCC countries is the reason to why iran managed to grow strong. You guys were busy being slaves of the US and wasting money on stupid things instead of advancing the arabs. You gave iran the opportunity to pretend to be the good guy while you openly were in bed with the US and israel. You could care less about syrians, otherwise you would have helped them with real weapons insteae of sending in foreign fighters to complicate things and destroy the syrian revolution.

Lebanon must pull out this incompetent league of failed nations. Waste of time, effort, and money. I don't recall a single deed coming out of this league since its inception. We must remove our cedar flag from in front of the H.Q. in Cairo and ship it back to Beirut. We should try to join the EU instead, what the heck, if Romania and Bulgaria were accepted in the club, we stand a chance!
