Barak: Assad’s Fall Would Deal Severe Blow to Iran, Hizbullah

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has said that Syrian President Bashar Assad has lost his legitimacy and the fall of his regime would deal a blow to Iran and Hizbullah.
In an interview with French daily Le Figaro over the weekend, Barak said: “If Assad falls, this would deal a severe blow to Iran and Hizbullah, a significant weakening of the Shiite arc.”
“The fact that Turkey has stopped supporting Assad is very significant,” he said.
Barak added that Assad could only remain in power for a period of six months. “He has reached the point of no return.”
Not that I care, but I predict that Assad will outlive Barak in power.
bigdigg, Barak is just the minister of defense. After the next elections he might be replaced by someone else, not a big deal. You can't compare him to a dictator who can be replaced only in a coup.
asaf > how long has barak been around? neten yehoo? the other pile of cold meat fed by tubes, what's his name already? oh yea sharon, thank god (or his obesity) for taking care of that one, or else we'd still have to puke every day when seeing his face
all these thugs are always around, they come and go, share power like you'd share a whore, and in the end they all work for the same clans, pretending to be fighting each other to give an illusion of democracy to the cattle, sorry i mean people, and keep them quiet. Don't get me wrong, i'm for democracy, the concept, but in practice, in israel and other imperialistic-capitalistic countries, it's all a big masquerade
mowaten, do you think people of different parties need to shoot each other, like in Lebanon, in order to have true democracy? Yes, their views aren't too different, since they all put Israel first (unlike some Lebanese politicians who put Syria\Iran\Sa3udia first). You probably expect me to get offended but your trash talk, but unlike you, we don't see our politicians as gods, but only as servants of the people.
@ asaf, it seems you missed my point, so I am going to spell it out for you and other slow people: Barak is one of the pillars in Israeli politics and also a dinosaur (he has been on the scene since ever). So even if he is not a minister in the next government, he will be in the following one. He will be in politics until he dies (or goes into a coma LOL) . So my point was that contrary to the wishes of the West and Israel, contrary to the prediction of Barak who is setting time limits, Assad will be staying and outliving all of them.
16 years is a long time? It wasn't even consecutive, much of that time he was far away from politics. The point being that without Assad, there is not Syrian regime (at it current form), no Barak or Netanyahu wouldn't make much difference. It's likely that Assad will outlive Barak as he's much younger, but so what?
