Speaker Nabih Berri urged officials to speed up the drafting of the policy statement so that the government can make important decisions, An Nahar newspaper reported on Wednesday.

“PM (Najib) Miqati’s cabinet will not avenge or carry out any vexatious actions, but this stance doesn’t mean we will keep silence over theft and abuses in the ministries and institutions, because everyone should be under the law,” Berri said.

Asked about the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and the indictment, he stressed that the issue will be solved when the cabinet reaches that point.

Concerning the possibility that March 14-led opposition MPs would boycott the vote of confidence session, the speaker said “if the opposition MPs boycott the session then this will give us the chance to shorten the discussions and wrap it up quickly.”

Berri told As Safir newspaper that March 14 forces refused to join the cabinet “after being offered to be represented by 10 ministers.” He said that if they (March 14 forces) had accepted the offer they would have “confused us.”

He stressed that the test the cabinet is passing through will be “fateful.”

“If we failed, this means we will be defeated in the next parliamentary elections,” he noted to the newspaper.

Meanwhile, al-Joumhouriya newspaper quoted the speaker as saying that the cabinet policy statement “will hold onto the triangle of the army, people and resistance and will be committed to the international legitimacy in its forefront U.N. (Security Council) resolution 1701.”

"but this stance doesn’t mean we will keep silence over theft and abuses in the ministries and institutions, because everyone should be under the law"

Does that mean he is turning himself in?

ask aoun if his friends are also accountable for the thefts in the ministries or if it just applies to those who are against them!!!!
if so, he will lose a lot of allies if he wants ll the thieves in prison!!!!
it is called aoun's idea of justice!!

"Syria's puppet regime and proxies in Lebanon have excessively abused their power. They unnecessarily built a national debt currently exceeding two
hundred percent of GDP while simultaneously amassing gigantic personal fortunes at the expense and welfare of the average Lebanese citizens."

"Following a Syrian withdrawal, it is quite conceivable that the Syrian regime will leave behind many of its instruments of terror and destruction as well as its paramilitary/intelligence apparatus. Therefore, it is imperative that Syrian withdrawal be accompanied by a complete disarmament of all armed elements. Only the legitimate armed forces of Lebanon can be entrusted
with providing security to the Lebanese people."

who said that?? aoun!!! where? at the US senate!
you have forgotten aounists of today???

The only "allies" of Aoun, that I believe might have some difficulties are jumblatts block and berri's amal. Jumblutt has already parted with marwan hammade. Gebran bassil lowered call tariffs for mobile phones and land lines and revenue from the telecommunications ministry rose. How do you explain?
Anyway, I don't think the public mind who are investigated and punished if they did steal from the public. This is called accountability and not all politicians caught mean the end of the party they represent.

the pb ado australia is that aoun and his friends are convincing people that only hariri has stolen money! he never said that some of his new allies ever did anythg wrong as he used to declare before!
he never said since he came back that syria was part of this system and that they were the ones who have forced politicians to be corrupted!
all he says is that only m14 are responsible...

i am with the idea to bring to justice all those who have stolen but it has to be fair therefore he also has to accuse many many people from m8 including some from his own party and from m14 of course!!!
which i doubt....

Peace. aoun's block have only been in government for 2 and half years. Hezbollah since 2005. What really can they be accused of? I agree, fpm or not, all should be opened and investigated in a transparent manner. The rest are Amal, future and jumblats old democratic gathering. All the christains come from one of these blocks. Syria did not force people to be corrupt. They encouraged and benifitted from these governments because it made everyone involved rich. the main ministries were controlled by them. Telecom, finance, energy, displaced and the worst of all hariri's sollidere. And the contsruction companies were even owned by the hariri family.

As I said amal and jumblat might get uncomfortable but the vast majority have come from the mustaqbul movement over the past 20years.
