GCC: Hizbullah's Continued Intervention in Syria Hinders Geneva Conference

Gulf Cooperation Council's foreign ministers warned late Saturday that Hizbullah's continued involvement in the Syrian war was threatening the Geneva peace conference.

Following a consultative meeting they held in Manama, the ministers condemned in a statement “the continued involvement of Hizbullah's militias” in Syria.

They called for “putting an end to such an intervention which will be a hindrance to the efforts exerted to hold the Geneva 2 conference.”

The statement said the ministers “expressed deep concern over the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on the situation in Lebanon politically and security wise.”

They reiterated their call on the Lebanese government to remain committed to the policy of dissociation and prevent any Lebanese party from getting involved in the neighboring country's war.

The Syrian military has gained momentum after seizing the town of Qusayr earlier this month with the help of Hizbullah fighters, capturing villages on the roads linking the capital to the border area with Lebanon.

The rebels have also claimed some victories, marking a successful end to a two-week battle in the south Friday by capturing an army checkpoint in the city of Daraa, the provincial capital of the region that carries the same name.

The GCC will hold a meeting in Riyadh next week to agree the mechanisms for imposing sanctions on Hizbullah members, its head Abdullatif al-Zayani has said.

The monarchies of the GCC decided on June 10 to impose sanctions on members Hizbullah targeting their residency permits and their financial and business activities in reprisal for the group's armed intervention in Syria.

Thursday's meeting, in which deputy interior ministers from GCC member states will take part, would "develop the appropriate mechanisms for applying" the June 10 decision, al-Zayani said in comments quoted by official Saudi news agency SPA.

There are many factors threatening the peace process in Syria none of them having to do with the HA.

First the "Friends of Syria" can not control an Opposition Council in complete disarray unready to stand together on many issues let alone negotiate with the Assad Government.

Second the Opposition Council does not represent the bulk of the Rebel/Qaeda fighters on the ground and any agreement wouldn't and couldn't be implemented. Qaeda would quickly deem the agreement heretical.

In short the GCC is trying to blame Hezbollah for all of its own shortcomings, mistakes and incoherence. The resignation of the head of Qatar was some long overdue housecleaning but the damage has been done and is irreversible.

LOL the GCC is going crazy that its poured billions of dollars in terrorism export, and arming/funding the FSA-Al Qaeda cannibals, yet its employees are getting RIPPED APART all over Syria and have resorted to desperate measures like targeting more civilians.

Cant blame the GCC terrorists, their multi-billion dollar investments are getting DESTROYED.

I have a video that would support your case ...

@ the_roar

It is not clear to me that the Syria/Lebanese border is cleared of Rebel/Qaeda fighters to the point where their supply lines are shut down for good. Until the area is properly secured there is need to make sure that it is secured for the duration of the war.

Thumb mckinl 30 June 2013, 15:25

@ the_roar

As long as the "Friends of Syria" keep supporting the massacre of Syrians with more fighters and more weapons the pressure on the Lebanese border will remain. HA is protecting ground it paid a dear price for and could lose rapidly.

Lebanon remains the Rebel/Qaeda best supply route because of the terrain ... That is why they put pressure on Lebanon to stop the HA so that they can reopen all these routes. With the Army stretched because of Salafist violence in Lebanon they can not police them.

Thumb mckinl 30 June 2013, 15:57

@ the_roar

The Syrian Army can not hope to secure the Lebanese border if the Lebanese Army can not stop Qaeda troops and supplies from flooding the border ... It is a two way street ...

And that is why there is so much pressure on Lebanon to stop the HA because resupply through Lebanon is the Oppositions only hope. The Lebanese Army is stretched to the limit now thanks to Future and KSA groups.

The roar... Welcome to the murky world of Lebanese politics.

Ur starting to wake up to what a lot of have woken up to in the last year... Hizballah is a division in the Iranian revolutionary guard.

They will end their involvement, not when the border towns are safe, but when Iran gives the order. What we are witnessing is a proxy war between Iran n Saudi.

I do have high hopes over the dismissal of the Qatari "king" tho. I think he bit off more than what Saudi can chew...

The real rat is the Gulf states combined and the real violators at all times, by using their oil money for long time to support terrorism, enable for them to keep in political control and keeping the East cost on fire. Their oil money always funded the terrorist.

And what about the interference of Islam's finest from around the world who have come to Syria to fight the "jihad"? Aren't they causing instability.

Missing beirutbastard00 30 June 2013, 17:58

So let me just see if I'm understanding ur point...

First, the weapons are only against Israeli aggression against Lebanon... Then, they're against Israeli collaborators inside Lebanon as well... Then, the weapons are to free Palestine, not only Lebanon from Israel... Then, they're to help the few Shia Lebanese living on the unmarked border with Syria... Then, the weapons are to help whole Shia villages on the Syrian side guard against fsa... Then, the weapons are to attack non Shia villages in order to help Assad win in Homs...

Now, you're saying they can't leave??!!... Now their goal is to occupy territory, and continue fighting until the war ends?? Really?

Beirutbasxxxx: the point is ethnic cleansing like the Hutu and Tutsis did in Congo and Rwanda. They kill then they colonize with their own. They enslave the survivors and have them serve them and their boss. That's about it. Israel is out of their reach, so they boost their moral by attacking untrained and poorly armed Sunni Syrians....

each day the staggering inability of the followers of hizbushaitan to see the reality of things for what they are the reason why the country is going down the path of civil war fast.

Thumb mckinl 30 June 2013, 15:43

Still waiting for the reports of Army treason you said were coming today.

Any executions for treason yet ???

Any indictments or arrests ???

As usual you make huge claims and then can't back them up because they are lies.

Thumb geha 30 June 2013, 17:46

the roar
your comment denotes you did not understand what I am saying :)
read all the above comments once more and maybe it will become clear to you what is wrong in what is going currently in Lebanon.
how can you avoid not talking about hizbushaitan every day while all this is caused by their weapons and actions?
how can you not talk about aoun while he is covering up for hizbushaitan, and at the same time getting richer each day that passes.
debate with whom? with people who refuse to use their brains to think on their own and keep repeating what their leaders say?
you got to be kidding me man :)

It is now to their interest to behave properly

Thumb LebCynic 30 June 2013, 16:08

geha, you have been served.... the_roar, thank you!

Thumb geha 30 June 2013, 17:49

served?
funny!
guys those of you who do not like to read my criticism: just ignore my posts!
why does it upset you so much? is it because it is the truth being put in front of your eyes? is it because you do not want to see what is wrong?

Thumb geha 30 June 2013, 17:50

perfectly said!
but now m8 guys will accuse you of so many things as usual :)

Thumb geha 30 June 2013, 18:01

totally agree. but how can you make others see that reality while they are running behind their leaders?
iran is pouring at least 150 million dollars per month just in salaries without taking into account weapons.
KSA, Qatar and others are pouring some amount too but far less than that.
and both sides are so stupid to not see that their foreign allegiances are destroying the country.

Thumb Marc 30 June 2013, 19:02

What we need is a pur Lebanese solution that is not influenced by foreign interference. The are lots of good and qualified people in our country that can represent the aspiration of the majority of Lebanese irrelevant to what religion or region they belong... We can dream and encourage all moderates to make the change
