Report: Bassil Tells Salam Change and Reform Not Part of March 8

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Caretaker Energy Minister Jebran Bassil has reportedly informed Premier-designate Tammam Salam that the Change and Reform bloc was no longer part of the March 8 alliance.

Al-Joumhouria newspaper said Bassil told Salam during a meeting they held on Tuesday that the Free Patriotic Movement's conditions in the cabinet line-up were separate from those set by Hizbullah and Amal movement.

Bassil asked that the FPM be represented according to its parliamentary weight but the PM-designate rejected such a request, reiterating that he could not copycat the parliament in the cabinet.

The Constitution states that all sects should be fairly represented in the government, Salam told Bassil, according to al-Joumhouria.

The PM-designate stressed that the Constitution does not state the level of representation of political or parliamentary blocs.

Al-Joumhouria's report came as An Nahar daily quoted sources as saying that Berri, who is the head of Amal, has asked for five representatives for Hizbullah and the movement in the new government.

The speaker reiterated in remarks to several dailies that he disagreed with FPM leader Michel Aoun on several local issues, mainly the cabinet formation process and the representation of the March 8 alliance's members.

“This means that the March 8 team that brought together Amal movement, Hizbullah and the FPM are no longer a unified team," Berri added.

Even M8 has no use for the Lunatic ex-general... but do not worry Bassil, paymaster Assad still loves you and your daddy-in-law.

Thumb mckinl 10 July 2013, 12:56

Berri is running the Parliament for Berri not for the good of Lebanon. Auon is fed up with the corruption ... He will find partners elsewhere for the formation of the cabinet ...

"Report: Bassil Tells Salam Change and Reform Not Part of March 8".

Um, FPM was never part of March 8 in the first place, and no FPMer would consider themselves part of March 8. The FPM was the REAL pioneer of the March 14 movement before the name was hijacked by Saudi-Wahabi mercenaries.

Change of heart for the General?
He is now like Sid in 'Ice Age' when Alfred's gone.

I hope that this move will be followed by the breakup of the so-called M14 alliance. The current bloc politics have not served us well. It only succeeded in polarizing the country even more. Both sides are responsible for this mess. A more fluid and dynamic political environment could loosen things up a little. We need to break the status quo.

Default-user-icon m8 and m14 dead woohoo (Guest) 10 July 2013, 10:46

Jabal, in my opinion M14 broke up a long time ago. you are right the blocs both did harm to Lebanon.

It is time for a new patriotic alliance to be created between whoever wants Lebanon first. Therefore it cannot include HA!!

Missing forces 10 July 2013, 13:41

jabal i hope you are right, i also hope everyone for and against aoun can see that they cannot follow who they support blindly into the abyss which means also blindly following their allies be they christian, sunni, shia and sundry. what happens if aoun decides hezb is no longer relevant to the country and calls on them to disarm etc etc will his followers suddenly become staunch opponents of hezb? same goes for the m14 alliance!! lets think about the bigger picture here.

This is just politics. FPM want a piece of the pie and don't want to dilute their position with March 8th.

Number one rule of marketing is to be the first in the market, if you can't be then create and new market segment.

It could also be a trick to get the veto power indirectly.
Let me have a drink so I can get the divine revelation on this.

Don't these guys ever get tired of lying? it's really impressive to see people who can base all their existence on blocking, lying, blackmailing, dishonesty etc. I am still baffled by this idiot - one can always in some way undertsand Aoun's legitimacy in talking and having an opinion but this guy is just a wonder of nature - the only legitimacy he has is being the son in law, this is really amazing...

flame you just posted that the above do not bring anything to the argument yet you are inciting the spite you speak of, lets just comment on the posts hey. btw aoun has possibly seen the light in thinking he can no longer associate himself with hezb as his past position has done little for his credibility. if he now denounces hezb or has a change of position on their weapons will yours and others position change on hezb?

Thumb dasphinx 10 July 2013, 14:07

Ok. Let's see
They are not M8
They certainly aren't M14
They certainly aren't neutral or independent
They certainly aren't allied with AMAL
That leaves one explanation: FPM is part of Hezbollah.

Peacelover : you're talking to a brick wall.

FT doesn't want to see / hear / comprehend the truth. He lives in a fantasy world designed by Michel Aoun himself full of lies and empty of logic.

History does not exist in this world and if it does, it's more fairy tales than truth.

I don't believe FT is even capable of reading or understanding what you are trying to say as he will jump and bark something about Hariri, M14, you being a Salafi and Zionist at the same time. He will completely ignore what you say and tell you you're a liar.

FPM has done an okay job handling their cabinets. To me that's what counts the most. They would have done a better job had they not been opposed on a daily basis by M14 or allied with HA and Amal. Anyway let's see where this decision will lead them to. It is unclear what's in the back of Aoun's mind as the situation in the region might be shifting. Syria is unable to control the borders with Turkey and that is very crucial knowing that most weapons are being smuggled in from there. The regime is gaining territory at the moment but it is not stopping Islamists or weapons from coming in.

Thumb beiruti 10 July 2013, 20:13

Its the dawning of a new day? Aoun cut himself loose from Hezbollah and Iran and his patronage source of money to keep himself in money and to pay his zilm's insatible appetite for patronage money. He is free of the money lines that have sustained his movement..... or is he is in free fall in Lebanese politics if indeed he has done so?

No dawning of a new day. The cost of doing business as Aoun, Inc. has gone up and so Aoun pretends to wander in order to secure a raise from his paymasters.

Missing helicopter 10 July 2013, 23:17

And we Lebanese voters, what do we want from our leaders? Do we follow the ones who have money channels and foreign donors? Or do we support the independents who prefer to serve the country over getting rich and wielding financial power?
We the people need to do soul searching and see if we are enabling those with foreign benefactors.

Bassil is a thief, and you never trust a thief. He should be in jail and not in any government. There is thousands of educated honest Lebanese outside M8 &M14 that can rule this country. I would say enough with all this corrupted politicians on both sides. Just to give him credit, jumblat is the smartest of all , he saw while back what everybody is seeing now and he is selling tickets to his neutral club, hahahaha. Either he has excellent antennas or maybe it is the herb matti that he drinks. Hope it is not too late for everybody and specially for Lebanon .....good morning
