Report: Hizbullah Requested that Berri Suspend his Initiative on Ending Govt. Deadlock

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Efforts to form a new government are seeming more complicated with Speaker Nabih Berri halting his initiative aimed at ending the deadlock, said the daily An Nahar Sunday.

Sources monitoring the formation process revealed that Hizbullah had urged the speaker to halt the initiative without explaining the reasons for it.

Berri had suggested that a list of government candidates be presented by Hizbullah and his AMAL movement without the Free Patriotic Movement.

Premier-designate Tammam Salam would have been charged with choosing five of the candidates, who will provide the Shiite representation at the cabinet.

Amid this development, Salam's circles told the daily that he has not given up hope to form a new government, stressing that he is still seeking to form a 24-minister cabinet.

Meanwhile on Saturday, President Michel Suleiman and caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati had held talks over various local developments.

Salam had told As Safir newspaper Saturday: “The pace of political and security developments in the country and the region require the formation of a government that confronts the challenges of the upcoming stage along with its dangers.”

“The region's volcano is on fire,” he warned, saying the stalling in the new line-up would have severe security, economic and financial repercussions on Lebanon.

His remarks echoed a call made on Friday by Suleiman for rival parties to make “sacrifices” to facilitate the cabinet formation process.

As Syria's opposition groups are now fighting each other, and assad is gaining momentum .......... maybe HA is thinking now is a good time to skip the cabinet formation process and announce the birth of welayat elfaqih. I better have a glass of wine now while I still can.

This is what the shia want, same tactic as the iranian shia with the nuclesar talks, act & pretend they want stability, then chuck a spanner in the works, Wake up oh Lebanese! cant you see what hezbshaytan is doing?

End of Islam, and they blame the Christians. What do you Sunnis and Shiites think will happen when Iran succeeds in becoming a nuclear power? Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc. will want the same technology, and spend their oil money to get the weapons instead of building meaningful infrastructures, i.e. medical schools that graduate world class physicians, build world class hospitals, manufacture something useful so they won't rely on the West, etc. If true, India already has its own pointed against those lovely Pakistanis and vice a versa. I'll bet my money on India to outsmart the Pakistanis. So, go ahead and copy cat Western technology to solve your religious bigotry and intolerance. Just leave Lebanon alone and take the Palestinians with you or "partition" please.

"Sources monitoring the formation process revealed that..."

ROFL, again the old trick of using unnamed "sources" to sell your propaganda. As if some random "sources" were sitting in-between Nasrallah and Berri and listening to their conversations.
Guys, from your comments and the way you jump on this so-called "info" i see you enjoy being brainless and gullible. have fun

You make many convincing arguments and I hope they are true for the sake of the country.
What puzzles me is why both Ms did not act on doubling the size of the army and procuring it the needed equipment. I know the Israeli lobby in USA, but if the money is made available we can find suppliers.

This is how they keep us citizens analyzing yesterdays today's and tomorrow's announcements. It is like predicting the weather, you never know if tomorrow will be rain or sunny.
As we ponder, they steal
As we argue, they solidify their powers.
As we become more divided, Lebanon disintegrates little by little

Amal is the political wing of HA, and HA is the military wing of Amal.

Missing greatpierro 14 July 2013, 08:54

HA doesn't care about the economy.

HA's Lebanon is one of living in caves surrounded by weapons and bombs and "resisting" for the sake of so called resistance.
Our Lebanon is one of celebrating life, of working, of playing, of living like normal people.

We are hostages to this milicia's whims.

This is why Aoun alliance with Hizbullah is very damaging to Christians and Lebanon.

Thumb Roaring-FlameThrower 14 July 2013, 09:49

A) Today, I want to shed some light on the unmerited, undeserved, and unjustified attacks on general Aoun's latest position(s) regarding his "rapprochement", or the re-establishment of "purely" cordial and "non-financial" relations with the Wahabi-Salafist Saudi regime. Yesterday, I referred to mon general as a man who thinks out of the box, and I got a lot of slack as evident by your popular vote (you the people of this great country) which I dearly value. I did not use this term out of void or for my personal "bias" and "unfounded" admiration for the general, and that I must admit of which I am guilty. Nevertheless, it is prudent on my part to raise awareness of those "not in-the-know" as to the real reasons that "compelled" the general to make this sudden change of heart regarding the Saudi-GCC-Cannibali alliance, which some and many of you have "erroneously" referred to as a "U-Turn".

Thumb Roaring-FlameThrower 14 July 2013, 09:50

B) The "mon general" deeply cares about the lebanese people, specially us the christians and our brothers in the Shia only "islamic" secular resistance (God Bless them). General Aoun will sacrifice everything that is dear and of value for the sake of this great nation. His "history" and his sacrifices of the past speak for themselves, and there is no need for "me", Roaring-FlameThrower, to re-count them in this forum and appear as a propagandist in favor of "mon general".

Thumb Roaring-FlameThrower 14 July 2013, 09:51

C) The issue at hand here, "mon general" was faced with a dilemma: "Millions" and "Millions" of "innocent" Christian Lebanese FPMers and Shia members of our "Islamic" secular resistance were at risk of losing their "livelihoods" and years of hard work in these GCC countries, simply for being whom God chose them to be and for supporting, aiding, and acting as a conduit to channel funds to the Shia only "Islamic" secular resistance.

Thumb Roaring-FlameThrower 14 July 2013, 09:51

D) The problem was exacerbated by the fact these "Millions" and "Millions" of lebanese (God Bless them) bragged outwardly and openly of their "founded" hatred against the "host" nations, and their absolute and undeniable allegiance to both the FPM and the Shia only "Islamic" secular resistance. As our dear and very well respected colleague, the Honorable "-FlameThrower" and his company of multi-faceted and multi-aliases supporting cast, rightfully explained, and I quote his comments in their entirety so as not to appear I am "misquoting" him:

Thumb Roaring-FlameThrower 14 July 2013, 09:51

F) Yes, one cannot stand still and watch idly such hideous "crimes" being committed right in front of our eyes in this day and age. I hope by now, you all have come to understand what might initially appeared to be a hasty "U-Turn" is nothing short of a true act of self-sacrifice and heroism on the part of 'mon general". My admiration, respect, and support for general Aoun is unwavering. I rest my case….. have a great peachy beachy Sunday:)

Missing un520 14 July 2013, 14:20

So, lets say that if FPMers got harassed, forced out of positions etc during the 1990s, than the general should have re-approached with the ruling autorithies of Syria/Lebanon at the time to keep them safe? (Well, looking at in in hindsight, perhaps thats just what he did...behind everybodys back....to keep them safe..

Patience. It smells like the U.S. is walking on a tight rope of making sure a moderate opposition group succeeds in ousting Assad and transition into a moderate leadership without collapsing Syria and creating a power vacuum like what happened after Saddam Hussein fell where the army, police and civil services did not remain intact.

Missing VINCENT 15 July 2013, 05:55

Zadig: Thank you, for the input. I can neither personally confirm or deny the specifics of your statement, but I do claim it was done with a purpose. Today, however, the U.S. has a different administration and point of view re. M.E. Today's view on M.E. arises from the criticism towards the prior administration and "alleged" promise by the present decision makers not to make the same, lets call it, "mistake". The vast majority of the Americans work paycheck to paycheck, drowning in debt, don't have an extra $1,5000 their bank account for a rainy day, wait until Friday to have a six-pack of beer, don't give a damn about Iraq, and certainly didn't like the idea that the alleged war would last that long requiring more deployment of soldiers. So, here, in today's view and opinion, it was a mistake.

Thumb general_puppet 14 July 2013, 10:04

"Hizbullah had urged the speaker to halt the initiative without explaining the reasons for it."
Really, since when does Hizbullah need to explain anything? It is a simple chain of command... Nasrallah gets his orders from the Ayatollah and passes them down the line to his subordinates Berri and Aoun.

It is with deep sorrow and much felt agony, I bring to you the news that "Four Hizbullah fighters were killed in the Sayyida Zeinab neighborhood of Damascus." May God Bless them and rest their souls in his deepest heavens. They sacrificed themselves, so "We", the Lebanese people can live and carry on with their legacy.

Missing greatpierro 14 July 2013, 10:56

But this could be true and and at least us logical. You know very well that Hizbullah strategy is to cannibalize the Lebanese state and its institutions so that hizbustan can fill the vacuum and promote the wilayet al faqih.

You must be referring to Hannibal Lecter who would eat you liver with fava beans and a Chianti. Tftftftftftf....

But branding anyone who doesn't agree with the FPM as cannibal is a pretty lame argument, you know. It is like claiming that people of the FPM, just because they support HA, like to stone women. This is practiced in Iran.

Thumb jabal10452 14 July 2013, 17:53

You are wasting you time debating with these people Zadig. They are programmed to conclude that anybody who diverges a centimeter from HA's line is an Israeli living in Tel Aviv. Here is a sentence from the Constitution as amended by the Taef accord regarding formation of the Cabinet:
The Taef Agreement stripped the President of his constitutional powers and arguably left him with only one effective tool of governance—the authority to appoint the members of the Cabinet as agreed with the Prime Minister.

So the only effective tool left for the President was thew authority to appoint members of the cabinet along with the P.M.
Now HA wants to take that away from the President and the P.M. (Weapons talk and B.S. walks)
