Army Arrests Group for Transporting Arms in Arsal as Report Says 'Suicide Vests' Seized

The army announced on Sunday the arrest of a number of individuals for transporting weapons in the Bekaa region of Arsal, reported the National News Agency.

The Army Command said in a statement that a driver of a pick up truck was arrested at a checkpoint after a number of weapons were found in his vehicle.

Other individuals linked to the incident were also arrested.

Investigations are underway in the case.

Meanwhile, the Beirut-based, pan-Arab television al-Mayadeen said the army arrested five people -- two Syrians, a Lebanese and two Palestinians -- who were carrying "suicide vests."

The vests were carrying the Islamic phrase La Ilaha Illa Allah (there is no God but Allah), al-Mayadeen said.

It did not mention where exactly the five men were arrested or whether it was referring to the same incident that happened earlier in Arsal.

Later on Sunday, the National News Agency said the army intercepted a white van and arrested five people of Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian nationalities on Arsal's road.

"Uniforms carrying al-Nusra Front badges were found in their possession and they were on their way to Arsal's barren mountains with the aim of infiltrating Syrian territory," the agency added.

Border areas in the north and east have been struck by frequent cross-border shelling and clashes linked to the Syrian crisis, while the Syrian regime has told Lebanon to better control its porous border to prevent the smuggling of fighters and arms.

Lebanon is sharply divided over the war in Syria and Arsal is a particular flashpoint as refugees from the uprising and fighters and smugglers hostile to the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad traverse the border.

Thumb _mowaten_ 14 July 2013, 15:50

yea the shia are so evil. it makes me so jealous that lebanese people can get weapons for defending their country, while foreign fighters can't even use lebanon as a gateway for their smuggling. so unfair.

Thumb _mowaten_ 14 July 2013, 17:08

May our LAF prevail over all armed groups including HA

Thumb lebanon_first 14 July 2013, 16:16

Good catch. LAF should not need to buy weapons. It should make do with all the weapons it has under its hand within our country...

As for HA, the LAF cannot attack it because HA has a near majority in parliament. and the reason for that is twofolds.
Our chiite brothers are not Lebanon loving enough. They chose the shiite iranian milicia over patriots in elections. Chiites use lebanese state provided free public school and free medical services, but vote for iranian HA in elections. And that is disgusting behaviour that is keeping our country backwards.
Our M14 revolution has been stolen by a bunch of vindicative expired politicians who claim that they represent the people. One of them is not even living in lebanon, the other just says "NO" to every attempt to talk. M14 is fragmented, it has no strategy, no direction, no real leadership.

For above 2 reasons, HA has majority in parliament, and for that reason, LAF cant attack it.

Missing helicopter 14 July 2013, 17:47

Are you not afraid of being called an Israeli now since you attacked HA?
I happened to think that the LAF can not deal with HA because HA will finish the LAF in no time if they try. Just like HA elements work in Gulf countries and wish them the worst, LAF are finding themselves doing the same with HA...... they are forced to accommodate them but will be the happiest institution if HA was to disappear tomorrow.

Thumb lebanon_first 14 July 2013, 20:29

what you wrote is true.
My big question is what can happen to get HA to drop the weapons and arrogance altogether? Chiites stopping voting for them? Iran bankrupts? Assad's fall? When can we start building a strong state with a rule of law?

As for the mosquitos who call me israeli (signedwolf and co), I think they either have ADHD and cant concentrate enough to read my whole post, or more serious cerebral damage, but in any case, il faut de tout pour faire un monde...

I am not sure about Iranians and Iraqis flying in and traveling around. And Syrians getting training in Dahiyeh. I can't confirm any of these things personally. But Wolf, you cannot deny that we are capturing Sunni arms, saying they are illegal, while any Shiite can transport and bear arms, under the protection of being members of the "resistance". I believe this is a fact and does not make me an Israeli. Anyone look at the Albanians ever? They are all united all religions, Sunni, Catholic and Orthodox when it comes to foreign invasion. That's what I support. One state, one army, all religions. Not Iranian, Syrian, and Israeli influence. It seems that anyone who points out the double standard with Shia arms, is branded Israeli traitor. They should use their might and organization to support Lebanon and the LAF only. Not to the sole benefit of their sect and political party. Why not lead from the front? They have a huge opportunity here.

Thumb lebanon_first 14 July 2013, 17:29

No wonder christias are selling their land and leaving Shiite towns in droves, I believe it is all the support they are getting from HA. HA offers Christians good money for their land though (just like the Jews did to the Palestinians).

Please finish your sentence............These zionists know how powerful Lebanese can be when united around the Islamic Resistance.
Otherwise I am afraid some traitors might think "around the LAF"

That isent confirmed. There are at least 3 locations where the miracle is thouht to have ocurred. The most likely place is the village qana that lies next to nazareth and not the qana in present day southern lebanon.

There was no south lebanon at that time. The area was basicly one and in it lived canaanites, israelites, romans, samaritians and a few others. The people of south lebanon today are not the descendands of those who lived there 2000 years ago. Not even close. Just like the russians and ashkenazis arent the descendands of the israelites. Christ's closest followers were israelites by the way. You have some really distorted understanding of things. Til this day i havent met a single southner whos family have been in the south more than 200 years let alone 2000 with the exception of saida who have families older than a few hundred years. Even your precious nasrallah is from mecka. He claims to be descended from ali after all. The berri family is from syria. Southerners are mostly from syria, arabia and iraq originally. Several places in the south are stolen from christians and muslims and were turned shiite.

Missing michel_tannous 15 July 2013, 00:05

You can not compare lebanon, a nation of people who are actually iraqis and syrians and other to italy. The lebanese of today are not the ones who existed 2000 years ago period. Especially not those from the south who are recent immigrants. And that was my point. Of course today, lebanese exist but its pathetic to claim its the same people as those who were christ's friends and solomons workers 2000 years ago

Hahahaha Jesus. I'm sorry I replied before reading ur full post the roar...

First of all, the land is called the Fertile Crescent, not because it was barren. Plz read up on ur forefathers land.

Second, if u read the bible, u will notice that when the Israelites came... There were a people already living on the land. They were called the philistines. Say it with me PHILISTINES!!!... And can you tell me what this loving forgiving peacefull god of the Jews, told em to do?? Have u read the bible??? The Old Testament that is.

Now besides all these made up stories... Lets just go to before 1948. There were people living in Palestine, called Palestinians. Do you know what happened next??? Plz read a bit and find out.

It's not about Islam. It's about just being human. What brought these Europeans over here?? They have committed, and continue to commit, the worst acts of genocide. They are worse than hitler ever was.

Missing beirutbastard00 14 July 2013, 21:37

And to answer ur question about a small group being such a focus. I'd say its cause they are the devils chosen ppl! They are the ones that killed Jesus! Betrayed Mohamad! Made and worshiped a calf of gold as soon as Moses turned his back!! I say there has been no group on earth punished so much by god! If anything god hates them! They are in charge of money n banks around the world... The root of all evil is their speciality! They are evil. Just because they wrote a book, and named themselves chosen ppl, means nothing! They rejected every prophet and saviour god has sent them!

The world revolves around them because they are evil and part of anti christ's plan on earth. Eventually they will be defeated. The middle east will get rid of the jews. Thumb zahle1 15 July 2013, 00:58

Jesus was all over South Lebanon, and there may be Shiite families who are indigenous. Some Shiite and Maronite families are from Syria. However, most Shiites in South Lebanon are true Lebanese, they are indigenous equal or more Lebanese than any sect. Especially more Lebanese than Sunni are most were brought in from Damascus. Also, lets stop calling anyone against the HA resistance Israeli. Not everyone is for sectarian arms or one sect having all of the arms. I respect HA for kicking out Israel, but they are not to use Syrian war, Shebaa... as an excuse to keep arms. Lets support the LAF united, bring HA under the LAF, and fall under our President whom all sects have a say in, whom is very neutral. These guys in Arsal should not have arms, but neither should HA. HA is not greater than any other sect.

Egypt has tens of thousands of Palestinian refugees, Jordan has tens of thousands of Palestinian refugees, Lebanon has tens of thousands of Palestinian refugees.
Egypt has a peace treaty with Israel, Jordan has a peace treaty with Israel, in January 1983 (yes 30 years ago) Lebanon and Israel agreed on an agenda for peace talks, but nothing happened, Lebanon does not have a peace treaty with Israel.
So if Egypt and Jordan can have both Palestinian refugees and an Israeli Embassy on their soil, why can't Lebanon?
