The General Directorate of General Security on Monday announced that it has detained a General Security inspector and a Syrian man who had facilitated the illegal entry of several foreigners into Lebanon.

“In the framework of the constant supervision on the work of border crossings through periodical and sudden inspections … the directorate's internal inspection department managed to detect illegal acts conducted by civilians in coordination with security personnel to facilitate the entry procedures for foreign individuals seeking to enter Lebanon,” the directorate said in a statement.

“Following authorization from the military prosecution, Second Inspector M. S. – one of those who received bribes – and the Syrian briber, M. R. A., were arrested, while the mediator is being pursued after an arrest warrant was issued for him,” the statement added.

The General Security called on all Lebanese and non-Lebanese citizens to “abide by the instructions of Lebanese authorities at border crossings.”

It also urged everyone “not to resort to crooked means to benefit from illegitimate and illegal services, under pain of legal prosecution.”

Why does anyone need smuggling. I thought we have open border everywhere with Syria. I feel little better knowing that you actually have to put some effort into entering illegally.
