Interior Minister Marwan Charbel assured the Lebanese that the security situation is stable and that the release of the indictment by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon will not have any repercussions on the ground.

Charbel told Voice of Lebanon radio station (100.5) that the “indictment is just an indictment and it’s not a final verdict, so why all the fuss about making a security deployment as if something has happened.”

The minister added “everything will be normal during with the release of the indictment.”

Asked about the political situation, Charbel stressed that the “political dispute between March 8 and 14 forces has nothing to do with the indictment… it’s linked to issues related to corruption and holding accountable violators.”

He hoped that the new cabinet becomes a “model” for implementing democracy between the governing majority and the opposing minority especially after the 2013 elections.
