United States Says It Is 'Ready' for Any Retaliatory Attack by Hizbullah

The United States announced on Wednesday that it is ready to respond to any possible attack launched by Hizbullah as a retaliation to the anticipated U.S.-led operation against the Syrian regime.

"Our Navy is ready to respond to any retaliatory attack by Hizbullah,” U.S. army chief General Martin Dempsey said during a hearing before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Dempsey added: “Our embassies are also fully protected against any possible attack by the party.”

“There are conventional risks of retaliation, plus asymmetric attacks via Hizbullah. Even cyber attacks.”

During Wednesday's hearing, U.S. lawmakers demanded changes to the authorization for the use of U.S. military force against Syria before a crucial vote on President Barack Obama's call for punitive strikes.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a three-hour, classified session to try to thrash out an agreement after Republican veteran Senator John McCain appeared to balk at the plan because it did not go far enough.

Democrat and Republican leaders in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee had announced a bipartisan resolution and scheduled a markup and vote for mid-day Wednesday, but it got bumped back a few hours amid what was clearly dissent about the path forward.

Obama warned last week he was ready to launch military strikes on Assad's regime over its alleged use of chemical weapons.

Washington has accused the regime of Assad of carrying out the August 21 attack near Damascus, which U.S. officials say killed nearly 1,500 people, including hundreds of children.

Great. Just what we needed. Well then, General Dempsey, kindly make sure you target Hizb bases in Syria then and don't go bombarding Lebanon in retaliation to any of Hizb's new unilateral decisions.

Thumb insideman123 04 September 2013, 23:15

Weather HA retaliates or not, Lebanon is getting bombed. Its a plan they have for the region. It's a plan they've had for a while. But this obvious plan to change the region has gone unnoticed by M14ers. In fact, they are cheering on this US imperialism...Just think about it for one sec. Lebanese people cheering on the US while the US bombs them...I mean how stupid a people are arabs. Wow!!

Missing samiam 05 September 2013, 09:50

you bring up US imperialism, but say nothing of the farsi one. Why is that? they fund and support hizb iran, syria, and hamas among others in the region, yet you and your allies don't mention it.

Inchallah BigSam. I hope they'll go for the full Monty that will really tip the balance and rid Syria if terrorism (Bachari-hezbollahi and Nousra).

Well I have to hand it to my Government for the Oscar inspiring charade taking place for the benefit of the American public. I strongly doubt there will be a strike against Syria unless it is in advance coordinated with and agreed upon by Iran as to the who, what, where and when. This sabre rattling is most likely for the purpose of repositioning a couple of pawns on the chess board. At any rate, a strike is is not in the best interest of Lebanon and the cheerleaders who think otherwise should examine the level of hatred they have for their fellow Lebanese citizens.

Thumb benzona 05 September 2013, 00:01

time will tell Bandoul, time will tell. It shouldn't be too long till we get the first answers.

Provoking israel to attack you by kidnapping soldiers is probably not the type of "protection" lebanon needs... neither is using civilian areas and infrastructure for your militant activities...

dear bandoul, if assad does not hand power to some else in the baas party or come to a discussion table or hand his chemicals to the UN then he is going to get bombed pretty much like bagdad was bombed before the ground attack meaning all airports, major communications centers , all radars and towers , all known depots and ministries....and this is one screw up he did and obama has him now cornered with the support of the elected officials....

Thumb benzona 04 September 2013, 23:59

please stop seeing al qaeda everywhere , any place there is a guy wearing black with a green flag or head band , you probably make him al qaeda ...its not so and u know it....and yes there are muslim devouts that believe that they are doing what their religion tells them to do when they are oppressed ...the way to deal with extremism is to seperate religion from politics and away from the way of life...if sunnis feel aggressed by bachar and no one helps out, then God is the only recourse, are you surprised??

I can't wait for the bombing to start. My favorite part about it is that all of you residing in Lebanon will have the privilege of internet stripped from you when the infrastructure collapses. BEWARE INTERNET THUGS YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED.

Thumb cityboy 05 September 2013, 09:00

Are you a clueless Israeli or what. The Lebanese lived nearly in the dark for 15 years during the civil war. You think a disruption in internet service is going to break the backs of the Lebanese people, very comical of you.

Thumb cityboy 05 September 2013, 09:02

Signed Wolf !!!!!!!!!!.........!!!!!!!!!!

Thumb Maxx 06 September 2013, 14:40

Now why didn't you tell that to Hizb when they grabbed a license to kill, murder and slaughter the Syrian population at the behest of your master in Damascus?

Thumb geha 05 September 2013, 09:25

iran and its offspring the terrorist militia hizbushaitan are the ones threatening like hell if the murderous Syrian regime is bombed!
their expectations were to sit on a conference table, but no one gives a damn about them, and now they are finally realizing it.
there is no place for extremists in this world, and they will be uprooted if they lift a finger.

Thumb cityboy 05 September 2013, 10:27

geha, you say they will be uprooted if they lift a finger. What do you mean by that, are you saying that this will be the end of the Syrian and Iranian government if any retaliation takes place against an illegal American attack on Syria. Is this what you are claiming, are you certain of this fact. So in other words your dream may come true going by your logic. Perhaps you should go and start to prepare for your victory celebration. Now my other question is what if they don't lift a finger, does this mean they will remain. Geha, you are too funny.
